I will get it started, with one and add to
this, editing, as I get the chance.

These are from a number of years ago,
when I first started getting into doing
these Latin arrangements. It's Eddie
Palmieri's wild band:

http://www.thediametrixletter.com/paraqueescuchen9.mp3

http://www.thediametrixletter.com/bomba2.mp3

George Brooks:

www.thediametrixletter.com/lena2.mp3

The following message, from George:

"Yes I did enjoy the Lena track with your drums.
I find that fifteen beat to be both a bit elusive and
rather hypnotic. Keep up the the good groove..."

Peace,

George

Conexion Latina:

This one (Flotando...) continues to be a fave, even
after all these years:

http://www.thediametrixletter.com/flotandoenelaire6.mp3

More recent, of the Spanish Harlem Orchestra:

http://www.thediametrixletter.com/larumbaseformo3.mp3

I am particularly proud of this one, spending a lot
of extra time, working on the bass part - something
that I had not focused on as much, before and all,
without losing the focus of the horn parts.

There is something about these arrangements that
both humble and discipline me. It is hard to describe.

I'm with ya brother Pete.

I say again, had it not been for you on a personal level when you encouraged me back in 2002 to remain on Boomer's site, I would not have been here today. Nuff said.

You are a musician's musician... without the commercial accolades nor appreciation.

I'm of your ilk rather than the fray so often bantered about.

Thanks for being my friend and comrade (oops... did I say something wrong?). No right! You ARE my eternal friend - simply because we can speak together without the frik and frak and most certainly with a camaraderie & music in mind. I call this ministry. Go figure.

Waltz For Lena was such an excellent choice as overdub project. Of the many such projects I've heard you do, Pete, this one stands out for me. This is probably because there was so much space in the original track which can be heard here on George's MySpace:
http://www.myspace.com/georgebrookssummit

Adding the kit punctuates the tune strongly. As I believe I said when you originally posted this, you should be hired immediately for the next tour. Incidentally, George plays Yoshi's next month with quite the amazing lineup, BIG MIX:
http://collect.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=music.showDetails&Band_Show_ID=28913229&friendid=82412459

Anyway, you could conduct a class in playing Lena and it would open floodgates for lots of people . . .

No charge.

Thanks for the kind words,
John. I appreciate it. You're
always an inspiration.

Woof,

You are too much. Thanks.
The tune is beautiful, on its
own. It was a pleasure to
play to it and it was the
same night, after I saw the
show that I did, I believe.

I appreciate it, hombre.

The links are all current, Niki.

Are you using Quicktime? What
do you use to download?

Very fun, Pete. Is this a film soundtrack? Sounds like John Williams . . . seems familiar.

Is is familiar, Woof. It's a file
from 2000, I think, that I found.
It was one of my first digital
attempts, way back when.

And you are right. It IS the
great John Williams, conducting
the LSO and the score is from
"Far and Away"; a track called
"The Land Race" - the film star-
ring the (then) couple: Tom
Cruise and Nicole Kidman.

Good opportunity to mention John's father, Johnny Williams, the extraordinary drummer of the Raymond Scott Quintette of the 1930s. Here's a trailer for a soon-to-be-released film about Raymond Scott:

Between this film and one about Vince Guaraldi there are some very rich documentaries coming out soon . . .

And here in 1955, this just might be Johnny Willliams:

Sidenote: Saxman Jay Corre played with the Raymond Scott Orchestra in 1946. Jay is best known for his work with Buddy Rich throughout the 1960s.

Here's an arrangement I picked
out to work on. Some tricky lines.
I really like trying to play it and
all lefty-trad-lead.

Hope you enjoy it. I might try it
a different way, again.

Regards,

Pete

PS: E-mail Reply:

The basic pattern, underneath,
with lots of color throughout:

Wow! Thanks for the second file because I didn't know what you were doing in the first. Come to think of it, I don't know what you're doing in the second either, but I like it. Wait, on third listen I'm starting to get it. Love it!

That R. Scott video, btw, was
just absolutely kick-ass.

Thanks, Woof.
