Hey, all,

I came across these guys on youtube. One of the funkiest groups I've ever heard....
And here's the kicker..... THEY"RE WHITE!!!

Only three of them: Bass, drums and guitar! And the Keyboard player/vocalist
will knock your socks off! Though I doubt I'd want to hear him sing like this all night.
But it shows what happens when you really apply yourself! These guys are WICKED!

Oh yeah, the band is called "Dirty Loops." Anyone heard of them?

Enjoy, I sure did.

Kind of interesting to see cover bands doing covers of the cover band.

Not my cup of tea, but the bassist is great. No guitar. Refreshing to hear.

ALL THREE of these guys are bad asses, Asaph.

whether you like what they do or not, it must be
admitted that they do what they do very well.

I am not a Britney Spears fan by any stretch of
the word. But they rocked this tune of hers:

"Circus"... They keyboard solo is TOO funky!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOPK9DcI7LU&feature=endscreen&NR=1

I believe this descriptiion of this unit really nails it:

"Dirty Loops is a Swedish power trio that twists pop music in a way never done before. All three band members have very unique individual skills which contribute to the "Dirty Loops Sound." Where modern hits get a new soundscape of bouncy beats, interesting re-harmonizations, but still with the hit melody in focus presented by lead vocalist Jonah Nilsson's incredible, wide ranged vocals. Their unmatched musicianship and unique arrangement skills are a rarity in today's world."

Oh, and look what they did with this Justin Bieber piece.
Who would've thought that a Justin Bieber tune could go
fusion! These guys are wicked!

I love it! I came across this Trio a while ago on facebook. At the beginning I was overwhelmed by their craft. After some time - after checking out a live clip of that band - I realized that while all the videos/also the "live" video suggests that it is played and sung live - it is most certainly not and is a studio production. I'm sure those guys did play that, but it is produced and you can do a lot in the studio... Smile
Much of the facebook hype over this trio is because its thought that those guys actually play it as clean in real time. I think it is an interesting concept, but might mislead the listener.
Nevertheless I would really be interested in seeing them really playing live!!!
I am sure they can pull it off live also though!

I'm not gonna get into all that, Niki... All I know is
the finished product of what they're doing is fresh,
unique and very, very good. Whatever they sound
like live I don't know. But I'd buy any of their CD's
in a heartbeat. I wouldn't care if it was a CD full of
covers, their style and concept is so different and fresh
that it wouldn't even matter to me. This is one of those
bands that when they play the music just MAKES you
move!

I give em 6 out of 5 stars!

I agree Don! I absolutely love the music too!

I'm just saying - I think there's also a nice marketing concept involved as I really doubt that the guys really pull off the music in real time, as the videos suggest. I found it strange that the only "live" video of them on youtube very likely is also "manipulated" (overdubbed) and only suggests its played "live".

I give them, or the producers a 5 outta 5, I don't know about the musicians yet. And musicians like Billy, Brian Blade, Justin Brown, Justin Faulkner and many others I give an 6 out of 5 for certainly being able to play live what the are able to play in the studio. 6 out of 5 for being REAL and not only suggestion it!

I'd love to hear them live as well, Niki. And I understand what
you're saying. All I'm saying is they have a concept that's different
and they have presented it in such a way that most folks that hear
them are sold on. Whether or not they can actually pull this off live
as yet to be seen but the creativity that has come to reality from their
concepts is staggering to me! Just when you thought artists had run
out of ideas, up pops this! Should I ever get the opportunity to hear/
see them live then I'll base my opinions on that situation, at that time.
But as it stands right now, I'm a fan as I don't discount the fact that
they did the work and actual playing.

One thing you might want to keep in mind, Niki.
Sometimes the video and audio are shot and
recorded both at the same. Then the the Audio
and video are later synced together. So what
you are seeing and hearing may very well be
live.... I can't say for sure, but I know it's done
that way quite a bit.

Precisely, Igor,

My bass player partner and I are right in the
middle of developing a project where we do
the same thing. Just bass and drums with
sequenced keyboards. This can be lots of fun
if your imaginative and creative enough.

As much as I really DIG the sound of the group, and the infectiously precise groove, even the "LIVE sound check vid" is augmented. I hear (and see) sounds coming from the keyboards and drums NOT possible unless they were synchronized either through MIDI or post production. Kind of misleading, yet certainly deploying the technology.

Great players though - I'd love to kick behind that bass player for sure. The drummer reminds me of Weckl with his precise placement of colors, while the keyboard player fills in the gaps from the links I've heard thus far.

It's nice to see the next generation doing what we OLD guys put in place toward improvement. But then I only gigged with the AVERAGE WHITE BAND! LOL!

I guess so. I have nothing to compare them against, not knowing any of the songs they cover. Definitely a cool keyboard solo on Circus.

It just has a highly processed sound to me, which I suppose is what they want. He'd be using a vocalizer live, which is fine. Loops, too, obviously. I'm not sure what is "fresh" about it. That fusion guys are playing around with Top40 covers? We were doing stuff like that in the 70s.

I just recently discovered Garaj Mahal. For my ears, that music is something to sit up and take notice of.

I completely concur Suss, this amateur-video of the soundcheck seems clearly post-produced, not only because of the things you stated, but because the quality of sound does not fit to the quality of the camera. This is quite misleading and puts up more questions than answers for me...
I'm not mad about all this, don't get me wrong. As musicians we should be well aware that there are mega-star-singers out there for quite some time now who sing to complete playback live and maybe sometimes are not even able to sing on a professional basis. I think we all know that this is a fact.
Well, maybe there's some producer out there who thought that this concept could be applied onto musicians as well and Dirty Loops could be a product like that. I think its the responsibility of musicians to be cautious of that and being aware of the possibility this to happen! That doesn't mean that I cannot enjoy the end product as much as anything else. I certainly do. And I would find it a fascinating concept if in fact those guys are not really involved in the music-production process, as suggested.

Anyway, I think its exciting how the tunes are arranged and produced!!!

What I find fresh about them is that the way they do the covers, they are virtually unrecognizeable outside the
lyrics. Also what you yourself said:
I have nothing to compare them against.
That in itself makes them fresh.
Why not try checking out some of the tunes they cover on youtube so you'll have a better understanding of what
it is they're actually doing. Check out just a little bit of Justin Bieber's "Baby" or Lady Gaga's "Just Dance" and then
I think you'd get it a little better as to where these guys are coming from. How can you begin to make comments
like:
I'm not sure what is "fresh" about it. That fusion guys are playing around with Top40 covers? We were
doing stuff like that in the 70s.
when you don't even know what the differences are?! Do your research!
That way when you make comments as you did, you'll at least know from which basis you made them.

I really like the innovative twists with the music that they come up with.... But it's all good. I realize that there
are some either out of envy or just plain old jealousy who are going to find all the negative neuances and not give
these wonderful artists the props they deserve. All I can say is I know I'm in good company when reading the
comments and the like/dislike graph. You can all say what you want but these guys GOT IT! And I'm diggin the
heck out of em! So you guys do the National Enquirer thang and find all the faults you want with this group.
In the meantime I'll be looking for more. I'll also be looking on youtube to see what YOU critical experts are
doing these days.

Don, I guess we just have different interests. Besides music, I'm very much interested in the music business and music production and how those work. Thats all!
It may be because I just have to study marketing right now and learn about all the concepts out there!

You shouldn't get distracted from your likes and dislikes by any other view on certain issues, at least that is not what I intended.

All I'm saying, Niki is take it for what it is.

Is it good or is it bad? We can discuss their
musical logistics just fine but to use them against
the product I think is unfair. I don't see any kind
of misleading deceptipn... I just see a music
video, and one that very well may have been
done live. The boys done good...

Give them that! Rolling Eyes

That sounded like a Mary J. Blige piece.

Stuff like that kind of drives me crazy because I dislike top 40 anyway, but as per suggestion I checked out Spears original of Circus. I confess I do not hear anything particularly overwhelming about Dirty Loops rendition. Heavily processed, just like the original.

I'd be more interested to hear them do something of their own, seeing they are excellent musicians. I'm sure they can tear it up.

Their rendition is based on the original tunes that they decided to cover. You'd
have to ask THEM what they were thinking.

I confess I do not hear anything particularly overwhelming about Dirty Loops rendition.

I never used the word "overwhelming", you did.

Dirty loops' version of these tunes are different
and in my opinion, just plain better. If it doesn't
strike you that way, then oh well, to each his own.

Okay, I gotta remember this.... The new definition
for the studio sound: "Heavily processed."

I wonder what it'll be when they do live performances:
Heavily real?! scratch

Anyway, this material wasn't created on somebody's computer.
It was played. That's enough proof in the pudding for me.
