Simon and his band are doing a short European tour starting October 25th 2013 - November 22nd.

His new Protocol CD should be available soon, the photo looks like he has a Shakespearean actor in the band,
photo 3 from the left...Lol.

I haven't been to a live concert in a long time, but in all the vids I see of all these various groups and artists at you tube all the bass drums are always lost in the mix. I hear everything else. I hear bass guitar. Why not the bd frequencies? Do sound guys hate bass drums? Most hardly have frequencies anymore, seeing they get muffled so much. I'm assuming the above was recorded with a ZOOM Q4. Really nice picture and sound. If the camera is picking up the PA system, the kicks are just not there.

Hi,

Simon Phillip’s Protocol II recording has been very difficult to get in a cd format. Previously you could get it only on live shows. The cd is now obtainable here: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/UCCU-1410
for $25.49 + shipping. Perhaps Colin knows of other sources? Personally I don’t like streamed music and wanted to wait for the physical product to arrive. I got my cd yesterday. Great fusion (eight tracks, 59 min) with Andy Timmons on guitar, Steve Weingart on keyboards and Ernest Tibbs on bass.

Kind regards,
Anders

I bought the album from Amazon U.S. as a download for $8 bucks months ago.
Streaming?..they are high quality FLAC files from Amazon and you burn them to CD.
$25.49 + postage from Japan, you must have paid almost $35 bucks for that?
Interesting to have the artwork, but not worth the extra expense to me.

I loved the way Simon just stopped playing, got up off the kit,
walked over and stood next to the bass player. What self
assured confidence in one's self and in one's band mates
to understand and realize that you don't have to be physically
playing something all the to make a powerful musical statement.

Loved it! I hope they come up this way during their tour!

Check out Simon's ambidextrous talents. He doesn't get
much credit for this but I know of NO other drummer with
the ability to switch sides like this to this degree.

He loses NOTHING in the transition... Incredible!!!

Billy was Simon's biggest influence back in the day.
Even in the way he set up his kit.  And though he
doesn't use the reverse, staggered toms like Billy,
If you notice, Simon has added a 5th and 6th rack
tom like Billy uses.
