Hi,

Here are two clips of John McLaughlin & the 4th Dimension with Gary Husband on keys and drums, Etienne Mbappé on bass and Ranjit Barot on drums. Gary Husband is a master of both the drums and the keyboards and truly a unique musician in this regard. I had a chance to see this group in November last year. A great show. It was interesting to watch Gary Husband switching between the keys and the drums as he's doing on this second video clip. Unfortunately Ranjit Barot's drum solo at the end of this clip is cut short.

Gary has not changed for years.
His keyboard-playing shows the
doorway he walked through...

...Left or right, he is in a compos-
itional NEW world. He's always
been there. Dreamworld.

Gary certainly doesn't sound like a drummer
that happens to play piano. World class on
both ends. When he does the keyboard duties
with Billy, it's not like you feel could have made
a better choice.

I was really studying Gary while he performed in the
Bay Area and I must say that I am impressed as
much with what he doesn't do on the keys as what
he does. Gary plays for the music with dynamic
subtlties that are as equally great as his explosive,
dynamic, onslaught. He doesn't play like he has
anything to prove... He does what he does and he
makes it work with individual artistry as well as a
collective effort.

Keys and drums alike.

I asked him which instrument he likes playing most
and he told me he couldn't pick one over the other.

A monster twice over.... Wicked!

Well put Don and Pete! Thanks Igor for that link, it's good that there are full concerts and whole albums on youtube now. In some cases this makes the decision whether I should buy this cd/dvd or not easier.

Kind regards,
Anders

Hey guys!

Here is a clip I edited and filmed onstage during soundcheck/interview with Gary and Ranjit in Oslo, Norway during the 4th Dimension tour in Nov 2012. This is clearly a free-form "conversation" between those two which they kindly agreed to just play a bit while we filmed them after the interview. While we filmed this it the door to the venue was supposed to already be opened, but we managed to "hold the doors" for a few minutes and then quickly have these gentlemen play a bit for us, and this it what happened.

Hope you like it.
