I've been through some different cymbals and i am really enjoying sabian paragons right now. I didn't like them at first they were a bit too mellow in pitch as i am used to using high pitched heavy bottoms for my top cymbals for more contrast. but these paragons sound great in a group setting. i was even going to get rid of them but now i really like them. i have some new beats from the 70's that are similar and work great. i think i'll go back to basics and let go of all my crazy combinations.
What kind of hi hats do you use?

I play 12" Special Recording Zildjians... Dafnis Prieto also uses them as the main hi hat...

14'' Zildjian K Custom Session Hats..For just about everything. Top Cymbal is Thicker than the bottom. and just a tad bit smaller-you get an excellent chick, and they are probably the best sounding hats I've ever owned.(Steve Gadd helped design them for Zildjian)

In the past I've also used a 14'' K Custom fast crash for a top hat cymbal paired with a Sabian Rock hat Bottom to nice effect as well. Others include:
Zildjian A Mastersound's-
Of course the K/Z combo-
Paiste Rude's 14
New Beat's

I've been using mismatched sizes for years now - 15 over 14, 14 over 13, 13 over 12, etc. Different weights of bottoms, but always heavier than tops. The chick just "zings" with harmonics. My favorite was a 14" Zildjian AC Mastersound over a 13" Paiste Signature sound edge bottom. I kick myself for selling them. I have a 13/12 UFIP wave that is wonderful. Main hats are always changing. Ebay experiments. Right now an old 14" Zildjian of unknown model with a 13" Paiste alpha sound edge bottom.
