On Monday April 14, Cuban percussionist
Armando Peraza passed away at the age
of eighty-nine.

After arriving in America during the late 1940s
he recorded with jazz legends Charlie Parker,
Slim Gaillard, and many others.

Peraza was an important figure in the devolvement
of Afro-Cuban jazz appearing on Mongo Santamaria's
1959 classic recording of "Afro Blue."

Known in later years for his nearly two decades
with Carlos Santana, Jazz on the Tube honors the
memory of Armando Peraza with a drum solo filmed
at a Santana concert.
