She's the real deal, Pete. I personally like Emmanuelle Caplette
better who in my opinion is a more fully rounded player in her
approach to the drums and the music. But she's well into her
20's while Senri is only 16.

The Japanese are sometimes harsh on their kids, they force them into instruments at young ages to prove Japanese superiority to
the west. A lot of it is old school Japanese culture, the kids play instruments, like in this video, but there is no soul or passion in there.
They do it because their don't want to disappoint their parents, not because they really have a passion for it.

That is why you don't see many videos of American kids like this, it is a Japanese thing, they do the same with regular school work.
Japanese kids have longer classes and don't have all the days off that American school kids do.
If you look at the girls face in the video, she looks like she is brainwashed with a lifeless expression on her face.

drumman,

I can't say for sure but I tend to agree with you on this.
These kids are pushed very hard to excel at an art form
and many times as you say, that passion isn't there,
even though the performance turns out quite marvelous.

But not all the time there are times when the passion is
very evident. Like in the case of this young 5 year old.
