He never ceases to amaze.

I do not believe I have seen anybody do what he does using traditional grip, as far as movements to his left, and the power he gets.

Clearly, there is not anything
quite like him.

For many years, I played with
baseball bats, a lot like Virgil's.
I used the Quantum 9000s.  If
you play traditional and work
like this madman does, you
will become more and more
and more powerful, fluid and
and dexterous.  Remember the
territory this guy is in and the
ground he's paved.  It's his
world.  It's incredible.  It is
not everyone's, though.  Still,
we can appreciate his work.

Honestly, I can't hold those
sticks in my hands for long,
much less sit at the kit for
more than 5 minutes without
suffering but again, that does
not stop me from loving the
wonderful guy and drummer
that he is.

Regards,

Regal tip Quantum 9000's!!!!  Pete I used to use
those and still would if I could find them.  They are
in the diameter area of a 5b but they were very long
sticks and I dug that.  Also the round bead is a major
preference of mine.  I'm now using Vic Firth General SD1's.
as my mainstay stick.  I love them but I wish they were
about a half inch longer.

The closest I can come to the quantums are the Alex
Van Halen signature stick.  The length is great but it's is
too skinny for the length and it vibrates in your hand.

If you know of any way I can gain access the Q 9000's
wood tip. or if they are even still in production, please
let me know.

I am going to be going through
my stuff soon, Don and if I find
any, I will send them out to you.

Thanks, Pete. I will be happy to pay you for them.

I will get around to it.  Have you
thought of using Virgil's baseball
bats? I have a pair that I like, when
I feel strong.

Regards,

The Vic Firth General SD1's that I use are identical to
Virgil's stick, Pete but not as heavy. I checked out
Virgil's stick and it's too heavy for my liking. I like the
Quantum because it's long like Alex Van Halen's stick
but with a larger diameter.

Gotcha.

I will be looking into some
of these boxes.  I hope I
find some for you.

If you are interested, here is
what I found under these cob-

(All moderate to light use)

6 Quantum 3000 Nylon afro
2 Quantum 9000 Wood

I had hoped to find more 9000s.
Sorry about that.

I will throw in some Alex
Van Halen and SilverFox.

Let me know.

Hello D,
I'm aware you mentioned Q 9000 but this is what I've found on Ebay instead: Q 1000s' Not sure if that's comparable enough?

Those are quite thin, Rac
but they are a throwback
to the day.

Thanks.

Yes, thanks, Rac... Pete is correct.
those are thin and being as long as
they are you can feel some pretty
strong vibrations when striking the
drum. These sticks are very long.

I honestly don't know how Alex Van
Halen is able to use the one's he does.

Check out what Don found
out about:

http://xceldrumsticks.com/shop/xcel-xtreme-series/

Might be the alternative to
the old 9000 is what he is
suggesting.

Thanks, Don!
