I don't get to do this much, play some jazz.

This was a benefit for the Ronald Mcdonald House. We got together a group of guys and just did some jams, nothing set in stone just all off the cuff. This is actually based off an r&b tune by Cameo called "Candy" We played the groove for little while and then took it into a swing thing. I switch back and forth between brushes and sticks... Nothing specail, really. It's a bit long and monotonous so you don't have to listen to the whole thing.

Just a chance for me to do something a little different.

Thanks for your ears.

Some tasty work, Don, as usual . . . I'm especially inspired these days by where you place a bass drum and working on this aspect of my playing. Seems you're blessed to be able to play any kind of music . . .

And now, yet another public business proposal for The Chiefs. For $250.00, I'd like y'all to do a cover of The Guess Who's No Sugar Tonight, but instead of sugar, I want you to sing "tuna". You got that?

Thanks, D.L. I will not be posting again for awhile until projects that I'm working on are complete along with some original material that I'm working on.

I'm a bit frustrated as there is so much that I want to do and share, and time is really on no one's side.....

Or it's likely a stronger possiblity that I need to simply better manage my time.

Don.

What the heck are you mouthing 'bout Neph?! You should be more jazz than what you give yourself credit for. You articulate the very pulses of those playing around you - which (BTW) is what "Jazz" is all about dude - let alone a drummer's role in the mix.

Yet you're that erstwhile humble guy behind the kit, but ferocious behind the "Enter" key! What a Face

I don't know Ronald McDonald, but do know Ralph MacDonald (fellow percussionist with a discography off the wall).

Okay... you've brought me to my knees Nephew without worshipping you! Hell - that'll be the day! bounce

I hear those brushes man! You accentuate the very nuances of the flow among the very fine musicians you work with on the West Coast. My kudos to them as well... especially how you support the bass player's solo. You are playing with precision - which is all those around us drummers expect to hear when FLUENCY (not chops) is anticipated.

Don... if I didn't know better, I would have thought you would have been playing drums ALL YOUR BLESSED LIFE! Yet time and circumstances have a way of taking a toll on everyone around the world.

Very, very, very nice my friend!

It is an understatement for me to say that I'm proud of you. You're already doing it, without riding a bicycle! Know what I mean?

Oh, did I say "very nice!"

Maybe you need to change your moniker to "DSmooth" instead of "DSlamm!"

Correct me if I'm wrong Don,

But do you feel that the circumference of your HH might have overpowered the rest of the kit?

No criticism, just I think I heard that you might have been using a HH diameter larger than what this tune required. Hey... we go for it with what's on stage without having to change equipment and textures between each single tune. I love the sound of the HH you used. Kind of reminds me of a wash in the slurf.

For comparison's sake, I like to play a HH no larger than 14" Smaller diameters tend to be weak for me with my left foot, unless specifically dedicated to the dynamics of a song, rather than a "set" of songs.

Regardless of diameter of those cymbals, I rely upon manipulating its' sound by my foot (heel - toe). I still love the sound that you get from them though.

Very nice job Don... I've have never heard you play in this dimension... I'm frankly very pleased that you have the chops to do it, let alone the heart and ears!
