Sonny Emory is the most, in my opinion, swiftest funky drummers around. All of that incorporated into his high-adrenaline solos. Check it out.

Unfortunately, he's among the highest of the most underrated artists.
I don't get it!

That's absolutely correct D, Emory is not in the lime light as what's been seen over the past 20 years of his incredible history as a great musician. I mean, this guy played with the greats yet not being credited as such. Sonny Emory compared to that other fellow in my preceding post ( A Killing Performance...Literally) is establishing that age old comment that "separates the Jr. from the senior" and I don't care how people try to slice and dice it. Sonny is just one of those drummers that experientially knows how to lay it where it needs to be in high gear.

If one was to truly listen-in on Sonny's solos he has the quality of establishing the context of the music at hand and maintaining the music's sense of continuity which keeps things relevant - this is serious stuff hea and maybe not appropriate to even compare it with anything less.

For his age the man is tuned to match or even exceed, in most cases, many young overly-confident lad. I don't say that in a demeaning way but in hopes that some may humble themselves for sake of learning something because when all is said and done it comes down to.......the MUSIC; are we in a drum marathon or are we playing music? I can't see how the two can ever serve one without jeopardizing over the other. Just will not work.

My take and out.

Well stated, Rac. And I agree wholeheartedly with everything you've said here!

Rac, I know you already get it, but do this: Go
back to your clip "A Killing Performance...Literally"
and Q it up again. Only this time don't watch it
but just listen.... It sounds even MORE ridiculous!
