Vinnie Colauita will be touring Australia and Japan with Jeff Beck in 2009. The rest of the band will be Tal Wilkenfeld on bass and David Sancious on keys and maybe second guitar.

these dates are the reason Vinnie won't be on the East coast Five Peace Band gigs. Frankly, I'm pissed. No offense to Brian Blade, whom I'm never seen live so I look forward to that, but he's not Vinnie.

Peace, TED

Brian really is a great player. His
style is radically different from
Vinnie's, however. While inter-
esting, I, too, would also prefer
Vinnie behind the kit, for Jeff.

Brian Blade is certainly a very different player than Vinnie...for me, Brian Blade is the most musical drummer I have ever seen and heard. A true genius in my book. Enjoy!

Brian really has a signature approach
to the drums. I agree, Niki. I saw him,
live, with Herbie and he was just out-
standing. It was a bop-setting, a lot
different from what he'd be doing with
Jeff but you know, I am curious how he
would approach it, now, that we have
brought it up. He was like a spider, the
night I saw him. Just fabulous!

Pete,

Brian Blade is not playing with Jeff Beck. Vinnie is. Brian is replacing Vinnie on the Five Peace Band Tour for the US leg - that's the band with John McLaughlin, Chick Corea, Christian McBride and Kenny Garrett.

The reason he is replacing Vinnie is because Vinnie will be doing those Australian dates with Jeff Beck.

Sheesh, Ted!! Duh. Sorry. I did not
read that too carefully. Apologies.

It might be the money. I know how
you feel, bud. I know you paid to
see Vinnie. I hope you are not dis-
appointed.

Again, apologies on the misread.

Regards,

Yes, Pete..I have seen Brian with Wayne Shorter and in a duo setting with Austrian guitarist Wolfgang Muthspiel....it's about what he doesn't play and when he plays...ultimatively musical. You can see and feel what he could want to play, the possibilities, but then he mostly leaves some of it out and just gets down to the essence...he has a great way of setting "energy points" which just boosts everything in a dramatic way. Brian Blade is fresh!
I am sure it will be great, yet surely different, Ted!
