Wow, that was great to see Don ! Great solo on the instrumental jam in tempo !

Really enjoyed the band's version of Sledgehammer. Perfect tune, but one I wouldn't have pictured that band doing. Works great of course with the horn section. I'm sure Peter Gabriel would be proud !

Also enjoyed Lyin and cheatin but wished it was the whole song, which I've heard on another clip you've posted before. Very professional band !

Thanks for posting those ! Peace, TED

Ted, EC is not a straight blues gal, which is one of the reasons I really enjoy playing with her. She has no qualms about mixing things up more than just a bit. The "Lyin and Cheatin" you heard in the other thread is the exact same one as this video clip. Audrey recorded it on the Roland Edirol (Oh, by the way, has yours come in yet?!)...

It's likely that the person that took those videos arrived late and didn't get the whole tune.

Thanks for lending an ear, my friend... Funny thing is I never thought I'd find myself on youtube.... Kinda cool... bom drunken sunny

Yeah Don, mine came a few weeks ago, but I've screwed up on the two sessions I've tried to record. I was using the wrong buttons to lower the input volume so the recordings came out distorted. I was also concerned about getting it into 24 bit, 96 KHZ mode, instead of the levels. I was also rushed because of time constraints so I couldn't get the right levels set. As soon as I can get a decent recording I will post some songs. We have our next rehearsal next sunday.

Peace, TED

Ho Don!

Just checked out the first clip, great jam!! I really like the back beat and the energy..the guitarist produces a lot of energy, also I liked the saxophonist. Was this a jam or is it a regular tune you play?
And I really liked the drumsolo...and that groove at 7:09...is that from Morris Day & The Time 777-9311 ?? Sure sounds like it to me. Very very cool! Wish I could play da fonk like that.

Its very late here in Austria, need to go to sleep now. Looking forward to check out more.

Laughing Laughing Laughing lol! !!! Niki, you sure know your funk tunes. Yeah that groove was from The Time. I learned that beat many years ago and was so proud of myself when I finally figured out how to play it. cheers Now, I 'm a bit sick of it but I'll still throw it in somewhere from time to time. The jam tune came to be in 2005. As you know it's just a simple funk groove based on a 1,4,5 progression. The bass and guitar player came up with that as one of the instrumental openers for E.C. It's called "Funk in E."

Playin "da fonk" requires the same thing as any other style of music, Niki, the application of one's self. There are no special secrets and it sho ain't rocket science. Just sit down and work it out. lol!

Thanks for lending an ear.... Both of them, actually. Wink

Don, I'm now also studying and trying to figure out the groove on 777-93-11! Not that easy! Thanks for the inspiration!

That's great, Niki.... It's really not as hard as it sounds.

Here are a couple of tips on working that groove:

Don't play any ghost notes on the snare drum as doing this tends to make that particular groove sound too busy.

The first snare hit should be on 2, and the next snare hit should be a 16th directly after the 4 count.

The kick drum is a 16th directly after the count of 1, One beat on the and (8th note) after the 2 count and a double beat 16th right on the count of 3... All the accented syncopated fills are played on the hi hat.

If you haven't transcribed this already, I will try and get you the notation on this.

Send me a clip of what you come up with when you can.

Go for it and happy grooving! cheers

Don.

This is what I basically transcribed from 7:09 into the clip.
I just used straight sixteenth notes at the top in relation to the snare and bass drum.

I like it when you're done with your solo you look at the bass player as to say, "Alright, I'm done now let's get this back together, now".
Communicating without saying a word. Cool

Woody,

Just about there.... There is a 16th pick up note (count 1) in the first segment and the second snare beat should come at the second 16th beat in the last segment.
