As Many of you know, Rick Laird was the fine bassist for the Mahavishnu Orchestra, the one who held everything together while the remaining four took the band to unheard of heights !

It was during that time that Rick was introduced to the wonders of photography by our own Billy Cobham. Rick had a great eye and thru his musical adventures also had access to many of the great jazz artists of our time.

He's compiled an impressive selection of photographs which are being offered for sale thru jazz.com. There is a story about this endeavor written by our own Walter Kolosky at this link:
http://jazz.com/jazz-blog/2009/3/5/the-jazz-photography-of-richard-laird

You can view the photos there : some great drummers are represented like Boomer, Art Blakey and Elvin Jones.

Check it out ! Peace, TED

Thanks for that plug Ted.

For those of you interested: Rick Laird will be appearing on some radio programs in conjunction with these historic jazz prints. How many of you have ever heard Rick Laird speak?

Tonight starting at 10 P.M. Eastern Standard Time United States Rick will be on the Gagliarchives radio program located at

http://gagliarchives.com

Tune Into The Gagliarchives at 88.9 - 95.1 - 100.7FM Saturday Nights from 10-2am, and heard around the world at http://www.auralmoon.com

I believe his interview will air at the 11 o'clock hour but you may want to be safe and tune in earlier. It is my understanding Rick will talk about his music career including Mahavishnu and then his photography. You may also want to go to http://gagliarchives.com a bit early to make sure you are set-up to listen.

Regards,

Walter

Thanks for the info, Ted.
You have the right idea, keep the good info coming, this forum has been getting so
boring lately. Most of the posts are useless information, you are good with the useful info.

Thanks again.

Good stuff, Ted... I especially like the shot of Miles. I'd much rather read about what Rick was doing from the music end, yet this is an interesting chapter in his life nonetheless and it looks like he's pretty good at it.

drumman, GROW UP!

Instead of always looking for something to aquire, consider something that you can give. Instead of always looking to gather useful information, why not try to contribute some?! If you see a problem here then work to fix it rather than sitting around sniveling and complaining about what doesn't work for you...

Calling the posts here "boring" and "useless" insults Pete, the one who unselfishly put this up for all of us to enjoy, as well as insulting all those who post here. If most of the site information is boring and useless to you then simply take your ass elsewhere. It certainly does you no good to continue to log in here and read information that is mostly useless and boring.... And it certainly doesn't benefit the rest of us to have to read your ongoing insults and negative input. I'd like you to tell me what possible useful information can come out of a thread called "Candy Dulfer porn jazz??"... Talk about the pot calling the kettle black! silent

Look, stand up like a man and face the problems you see straight way with possible solutions instead of always griping like some little spoiled rich daddy's girl!

And if none of that works for you then simply cancel your membership here and find a forum that will give you everything you want. In the meantime, either GIVE something to this site that you feel will make it better for not only you but everyone who participates here, or keep your cry baby, moaning and groaning to yourself and deal with what you get.

ENOUGH, ALREADY!

Don.

drumman, don't listen to him. Look, he's a chick. A bit discombobulating seeing you like that, D. Hard to get used to . . . but hey, if you wanna flip it over, be my guest. Don't worry about all the heebie-jeebies. Check it out, our town just hired a transsexual as City Manager (your area should be very proud of us):

Our mayor lives across the street. Doesn't matter now if he gives away the beach to developers with this excellent stroke of human evolution.

drumman, the key is not to read any of the threads, but post on them regardless. For example, I have no idea what this thread is about.

Those New Balance socks turned out pretty good!

Gotta love these jazz photo collections, especially the ones by musicians. Probably the best is bassist, Milt Hinton (over 60,000 images), perhaps inspiration to Rick:

And then William Gottlieb's collection is unreal good:

My avatar's more congruent with reality than yours, D. You can kiss my genetic makeup (KMGM). Actually, I think it's really cool you're using your mate's image; at once swashbuckling and a beautiful symbol crash.

On occasion when my son acts up I ask the question "Do you want good attention or bad attention?" He always chooses good attention. Some people seem to make no differentiation, because any attention is good attention. Put that in your pot and stir it, drblank.

Wow! Too much tension, fellas!

I gotta' tell ya' Drumman and Woofus, I think that Don, Pete AND Boomer, deserve a lot more respect than you're showin'. This site is too good for this type of crap.

Just my $0.02.

Hey, ff, my intent was to diffuse tension. But the best music and sex are built on tension and I doubt you're getting either of those in your part of PA. Now that's what I call triple-tension. Release me.

Do you think Billy has made the kind of music he has through appeasement? On the contrary, he's been disarming and capturing nations for decades.

The iambic pentameter gives away drblank every time. But don't listen to me, that's the fourth time I've said iambic pentameter today.

p.s.- don't mind me, that's just a little performance art up there. Bad attention, serve it up and KMGM.

Hi, Russ,

I think you misunderstand Woofus, whom I call "Woof" with affection... Woof is sort of our tension easer if you will... He will post in this manner to actually ease the stress levels, not build upon them... Woof is part of that family community that several of us have written about. I know my brother and he simply wants to keep it light and like his cousin, Rodney King he just wants for everyone to get along... Smile I was not offended at all by what he wrote about me as I know it was in fun, as was what I wrote to him...

Quickly though, drumman (drblank) is one of those cats that has a way of getting under everyone's skin. There are posts concerning him on other sites where he leaves the same kind of impression... Which is why his monikar has changed. Again, now that I know his true identity I'll simply consider the source. Pete, as always, being the sweet guy he is, chooses to take the diplomatic road... Unfortunately that just doesn't work with everyone. I believe that drumman abides in that group.... I hope Pete proves me wrong.

But I thank you for your gracious respect and defense on my behalf, Russ.... You've always been alright with me.

Don.
