Flooding in Atlanta.......

I wonder how Suss is making out and if the floods have affected him.

Last I heard from him was on Myspace. He does touch grounds on occasion when deemed necessary and I deeply appreciate his wisdom and encouragement as a former pastor first and as an accomplished musician over the years.

Hi Guys... Don phoned me to check in and I can report that though I am not affected personally, I am affected physically (work) with the Federal Declaration of disasters here in Georgia. I work for DHS/FEMA.

The torrential rains overwhelmed reservoirs, rivers and estuaries into areas that were not expected to occur. The sad part is that a number of people lost their lives in currents that floated their cars away from roads. The next sad thing is that those who should have had flood insurance did not have it. The final thing is that even though your platt map states you are not in a flood zone (unless you live on a mountain top)... GET IT. I'm saddened by the devastation as well as by the refusal of real estate developes and "real estate agents" representing that home purchasers need not comply. This is despicable... and there's going to be a change soon.

However, I'm very glad to know that even though I've not lost sight of you Guys, you're still in my heart and thinking.

And I'm glad myself. A cadre of personnel have been amassed in my state to support those in need. And to think this follows only after a flood. What would have occured here with what other states have had to suffer is minor in comparison. Yet there was much life and property destroyed. One life is enough, huh? We can always replace "stuff..." - but when it comes to a precious soul who never thought him/herself that such would be the last breath (let alone the family searching painfully for them), ... well, that's another story all together.

The affect of recent impacts have taught me even more to treasure what I have, and to do what I can to mitigate what impacts others. That's my mission ... not music.

On another note... I am slated to be in the studio three weeks from now. Music CERTAINLY is my passion!

... funny thing about Ministry young man is that you'll find yourself giving what "you're not" in need of. When you experience this dynamic, let me know. It will complete a circle for you and provide a Testimony before Mankind - because men/women will hardly praise you when working in the Field.

... when asking Donny back then what "Nu-Po" meant, his glib response was always "you'll figure it out in time." Too bad his time was short for some reason, but I think I finally figured this tune out. My humble opinion is that we often think in terms of what we lack, rather than in terms of what we have and being content. Hence we're the new poor: recognizing that our wealth is not found in the material, but the spiritual side of living for each other, and not just ourselves. IMHO.

Nu-Po = New Poor = brilliantly defined . . . and a nice play on nouveau riche, though "new poor" is not a new term, but may have been new in 1974. Today it refers to poverty beyond control of the well-intentioned individual.

Suss, you know exactly why you received a call from Basie. You guys couldn't help but hit line drives in '74 and this call surely was not out of left field, but came directly from home plate. Of all your recordings, this Carnegie Hall performance is probably the most important, at least to me.

Yes Keith... I sense exactly why Basie would phone me out of the "Blue!" What amazes me is that you know too, though I shouldn't be surprised at realizing what should have been a given in this Community.

What truly amazes me is that those among us who have never met face to face acknowledge the common ground among us.

That is truth. We (pastoring) can be an unappriciated career. It rubs against my accomplishments as a business owner cause there is hardly any gratitude in the attitude, especially with youngbloods. But I still will love them into the Kingdom! If Chirst did it for me at my worst, I should try to mimic that mindset....because according to scripture, our challenge is settling with the assumed reality that... 'we have the mind of Christ.'

I think that because of this sense of sacrafice, there are relief programs that are orchestrated by Chirisians that have been known to 'outgive' in the area of helping than even the Redcross has done in the history of it's lifetime - It's just not in the lime light of the circular media being it's about having a religious tone behind of it. Again, only makes my point that much clearer; Whether it's pastoring or administering aid to the needy can be unnoticed, unappricated work yet accounted for and rewarded in another less popular hemisphere called....the Kingdom of God.
