Hey guys,

I have a few tunes up on my site at the Drum Network. Just some covers that the funk band I work with (The Joint Chiefs) did at a recent live performance. The tunes are:

I wish
Shining star/Pick up the pieces.

Go here and check them out:

http://thedrumnetwork.ning.com/profile/DonThomas

I set them up to be downloaded so I suggest you click on the down-pointing arrow just to the right of each tune, as this will give you considerably better quality than clicking on the name of the files.

They're just covers, but I hope you enjoy them anyway.

The files are just underneath my picture.

Thanks for listening. afro

Slam.

No, Woody. That's the leader and guitar player on these tunes whose name is Don, also. The two of us are the only vocalists in the band so all the background parts you heard was me. When I do lead, he does background obviously... I will post some tunes with me doing vocal leads later.

Thanks for your ears.

Don.

Thanks, brther,Ted,

I'm sending you that entire show today. The sex machine thing? What happened there was the song was I wish. Don the guitar player temporarily started singing Sex Machine over the progression just for the spontaneity of it, which was fine. For some strange reason instead of just staying where he was, Daniel the bass player changed the bass line to Sex Machine. It turned back around and as you heard, we all had a good laugh about it.

Thanks for listening, my friend.

Don.

OK Neph!

Out of the mouth of babes comes wisdom!

You masterfully baited my response with the Joint Chief's covers of "Shining Star" and "Pick Up The Pieces."

Excellent job my friend. Though covers, JC brought a freshness to these tunes. I'll phone you since I'm finishing a project in the studio and heading to Europe.

All The Best,

Great band. Should do some studio stuff. I Wish could be my favorite Stevie ever, so I'm a bit partial to that cover. Don, you know how it's supposed to be done and I know you're a huge James Brown fan, so have you heard about the new Maceo Parker release?

I heard a tune on the radio last week with a monster solo by Dennis Chambers that was so musical; think it was Pass The Peas. That was the best Dennis I've ever heard, though I'm no expert on his stuff.

Suss is heading to Europe??!! Holy cannoli, I better call you while it's free!!! But then I might not get those priceless messages . . .

Unc, Woof,

Thanks you two!

Unc,

I cannot begin to tell you how thrilled I am to hear that you are back where you truly belong. You being physically out of the musical loop is like trying to keep a race horse from running while in his prime. It's great to know that you are back on the scene doing the damage that I knew was still there. I can't wait to hear all about your current and future projects and what your trip to europe entails!

Watch out ya'll! J. Sswell is back! cheers

Woofman,

Joint Chiefs is in the throws of two studio projects as I write this. The first is the demo for more higher end gigs and the second is a new CD of original material. It will be their third cd and my first with them. We've already laid several rhythm tracks and they're pretty PHAT! It will probably be at least a couple of months before the projects are done, but You guys will definately be notified when that happens.

Thanks again for your ears, guys.

Nephew, Don.

P.S. Unc, EC left for a week's stint in Edmonton, Alberta today. I tried to get her to call you, but you know how that story goes. It's all good though. From the looks of things, you're not letting the grass grow under your feet!

Hmm... Now where have we heard that one before?! lol!

I know all too well Neph! Thanks for looking out though. It's pretty much a dead issue now.

Who was it (?), Cocker who sang "A Little Help From My Friends?" Cool Laughing
