Level One CD 11th House Coryell/Mouzon 1975 Eleventhhou_levelone~_102b

At last on CD
woundebird/Sony.

{A really heavily-jamming album from Larry Coryell's Eleventh House group – certainly to be expected, given that the lineup includes John Lee on bass, Mike Mandel on keyboards, and Alphonse Mouzon on drums! The sound has plenty of rock-fusion touches – and Coryell's guitar is searing, with those great fuzzy touches he virtually invented in his early years – just right here for the kind of over-the-top fusion that the group's putting down! Some nice funky undercurrents – and titles include "Nyctaphobia", "That's The Joint", "Struttin With Sunshine", "The Other Side", and "Some Greasy Stuff". © 1996-2012, Dusty Groove America, Inc.}

[This was the follow-up to the legendary Introducing the Eleventh House recording. While it never achieved the classic status of its predecessor, it is an excellent follow-up that captures the band at their creative and technical peak. From the whimsical "Diedra" to the intense "Nyctophobia," Coryell leads his group with an understated refrain. He has always been at his best when acting as an equal within a group's space rather than as the centerpiece. His one indulgence here is the pretty, acoustic guitar solo "Eyes of Love." Of particular interest on this recording is the ferocious drumming of Alphonse Mouzon, who displays a style of speed and power that rivals that of Billy Cobham. This is a forgotten gem from the fusion era. ~ Robert Taylor]

I had that album back in the day and a couple others Mouzon was on.

Interesting to see companies reproducing these. Just shows there's a desire for fusion out there with the 70's vibe and soul that is not being met in today's market.

I have an album of these guys along with a live recording.
In short, they were probably the most sloppiest band I'd
ever heard in my opinion.... First I think they tried to emulate
M.O. too much and Alphonse to me put way too many of those
fast, single stroke power rolls over everything trying to sound
like Billy. Not trying to take anything away from Mr. Mouzon but
He was HEAVILY influenced by Billy and it showed..... All the time!

I just couldn't get behind 11th House.

Of course
There was Gigs back then with 4 bands playing
that had
Mahavishnu Orchestra,
Return To Forever,
George Duke and Billy Cobham Band
and
11th House.

I love the first track on this CD
with Steve Khan on backing 12 String Acoustic Guitar
and Larry Coryells Guitar Solo.
