There were a couple of times when the banners were advertising local jazz clubs here, in my hometown. I was thinking it was Pete that was putting these up so I thanked him for it. I'm not sure who does these. But it can be usefull information when you need them.

It was here on my site as well then, I chose to comment and now I see forex, chat-Swissfriends and Drums & Zubehör. I have been wondering who controls these adds, does anyone here know?

Hi all,

The way I understand it is this webpage is free or is at least
a very minimal cost to it's host (Pete). Thus it's actually paid
for through advertisments. A friend of my son actually has a
friend who owns his own business where he solicits different
companies to advertise on sites such as these.

So the advertisements you see here are quite random and outside of
Pete's control. So whoever decides to sign up gets a spot. I believe
Myspace works on the same advertising revenue building principle...
I'm sure that porn is excluded from this however..... Darn it! lol!

lol! Don!

Thanks for the explanation! I also think that it works that way and that the banners are linked to our IP adresses to adress us to companies who are close to us! I guess that how it works these days...so it seems that Scientology tries to reach people and expand in Europe ( at least we know about Switzerland and Austria)....well, they can try but they won't catch me! bounce Smile

While it's probably true about the banners being linked to our IP addresses, I don't believe they could be put there without permission from Pete, who owns the site. I'm sure it's a way to help defray the cost of the site, but only he can speak to that if he wishes.

Don is correct. I had a free site once, and it was only because I had to allow adds. and they try to match the adds for what ever your site is.

Hi all,
if you want your site to be adds free you can (by upgrading the site) pay your domain registrar extra fee and that would solve the issue . It normally happens on not expensive domains (take GoDaddy for example).
The adds for these sites are randomly chosen by the local servers (so i have an Israeli add)

That's not the way it works, Ted. Pete is supplied the page for free (likely).
In which circumstance the ads automatcally come with the territory. Pete is
priviledged to host the site at no cost out of pocket. Thus he has no control
over the ads.

Now, If HE supplied the necessary tools and developed this page on his own and
then went out and solicited advertisements where they're paying him to be here
then I see your point. But I really doubt that be the case. Again, myspace operates
under this concept. You control your page but you don't own it.

I had 2 paid sites which Don was involved with one of them, but anyway no ads unless I put them on there myself.

The reason why so many adds appear for ANYTHING is because these firms are in business to make money. ForUMotion earns its' duckies by the # of hits and apparently some are buying into the promos/ads.

That's not necessarily a bad thing. Why? Because I remember when I used to subscribe to magazines back in the 80s, I questioned why every few pages there was an ad for one thing or another. I then learned that the reason was because these publications need to stay in business. They sell the prominence by their platform: WE are the platform.

Now you'll find magazines offering free subscriptions to readership - simply because they want to keep their subscriber base alive. LIFE is good - so I humbly submit, don't question the reasons why. I'm not into Scientology - and I like Tom Cruise as an actor. But then I like..., I like... I like... See my point?

Maybe Morgan Freeman can give some wisdom on this conundrum. How appropriate can that be, given he's from Missisippi/USA (a very backward state in terms of the Americas.).

... and YES: I'm an African-American! Never like anything in MS. Smile in your face and stab ya in the back!

... Whew! I said it - got it off of my chest and feel better now! So let me apologize...

There is NO STATE or status anywhere where anyone maligns individuals. Mississippi has great people in it. I just had VERY bad experiences there like I did in South Africa during apartheid. Go figure - and think thrice before refuting with an argument about what I experienced.

The one who controls these ads is the very same ForUMothion. There's no question there.

Spanky... relax my friend and drink water among the 300 as Gideon's army did. Drink with your eyes open and wide, while looking circumspectly Spanky. We live in the very day when our circumspection will determine our Destiny and the outcome of those who we are NOT the judges of. [Judges 7 in any translation or transliteration]
