What Is To Tight ?

I like my snares tight, but yesterday I tuned my resonant head to tight. It is a Evans Hazy 300. I looked at it today and it had split in the middle, and really you don't have to tune the bottom snare head real tight. I keep my batter side snare head tight. Who here tunes their resonant side snare head real tight. Because it is there just to give the snare wires a response thereby giving the drum that snare sound. So I will never over tighten that resonant head again.

Spanky, too tight is when you start splitting drum heads.

Seriously, I like my resonant snare head tight also but the ones I
use (Remo Diplomat) are rice paper thin and I have to be very careful
as to the amount of tension I put on them. I've popped brand new
ones because of this very reason.
