That's a bull crap article, Neil has not made any definitive plans right now,
if you read his current Modern Drummer cover story, he has a much more positive outlook on the future.
These type of false information stories on the internet crack me up, they love the gloom and doom angle,
too bad it's not true...in real time.

Don't shoot the messenger, guys.  Below is some further developments.
Just because you don't want to believe something doesn't make it not
true.

Things happen and people change their minds.  I don't know for sure
what Neil's plans are.  I do know that those magazine interviews are
done 3 to 6 months in advance and a lot can happen between the
time of the interview and the time the article is published and hits the
magazine stands... And news on the internet is like what email is to
snail mail. That's why news papers are nearly a thing of the past. So
if you're trying to stay with current events via magazine articles, you're
gonna be as they say a day late and a dollar short.

The article was on the net and I simply shared it. draw your own conclusions.

And here's an article with Rush bassist Geddy Lee addressing the issue.
So what's it mean for Rush concerning the drum chair if Neil doesn't want
to tour any longer?

Time will tell.

"We’ve always talked about doing some soundtrack work."

When realistic factors of physics begins to take it's toll, retirement can be easily acceptable.  At that point, probability is likely, especially when band members consider doing soundtracks as oppose to demanding tours. For Neil, it's coming to that full circle when loved ones takes precedence and fine tuning one's remaining time and personal values - the kind of values that will outlast our professional lives. I think It's when we love something so much that the tendency is to subconsciously ignore it's symptoms. For me, it was accepting a physical ailment with one of my favorite drummer's performances, Lenny White. Never the less, I still believe he's a great drummer even more so now. Another possibility to Pert's analogy using athletics and 'leaving the game' remark is what the movie industry does with statements like that and that is having the objective of being promotional.... I dunno Wink Personally, for what it's worth?  There is someone or some influencing factor(s) of life on the other end of the stage, that are anticipating drawing that grand curtain to a close. And this my friend is nothing out of the unusual and neither a total end...I would think. As to Mr Pert? Simply slowing down in the rush of things.

I'll button-up here. There is a saying; "When we think it's the end, it's just a bend in the road towards a different direction."

Just my thoughts here.

Well stated, Rac.  Every written word of what
you scripted makes perfect sense.

Not everyone's season has the same duration,
but rest assured we all have our seasons.

Neil could very well be anticipating the change
in his.

Life is so big and when I think
I get it, I realize it's bigger. It's
so much bigger and like the
ocean is to a pond, its waves
of change wash away any sense
of control I think I have over it.

When I think I have a grasp of
something, I realize I don't.  I am
always surprised and not always
in a good way by things and then
there is the only constant in life
that we have and that is Change.

Like Bruford, if Neil thinks it's time,
then it is.  When the body cannot
do it, it cannot do it and we know
that Neil has seen a LOT in his life.

I was not a Rush fan but I have
always respected Neil and think
that he contributed to the art.

Ha, funny.  I thought I wasn't a Rush fan too
until about a year ago when I sat down and
watched an entire concert by them on Palladia TV
network.  They were quite incredible.

Couldn't grasp the concept of running washing
machines on stage, but whatever works I guess.

Whatever is best for Neil is what I'd like to see
come to fruition.
