That is funny and what is funnier
is that sh-- still happens. lol

He was an incredible drummer. Not
one of my favorite performances,
I prefer the work he did with James
and Dorsey - his seemingly effortless
command of the kit and especially
his left-hand, which still is the bar,
I feel. Not the nicest guy you will
ever meet but one of the greatest
drummers, for sure.

Yes he sure was a Pro on that gig.

It is a shame that when he met Bill Cobham , once
it did not go down well.
I recal what Bill wrote on many Forums ago.

I've been thinking the same and what's bothersome to me is wondering if it's even possible to get there using matched grip. I don't believe it is, yet cannot really play trad except with brushes. The psychological term is cognitive dissonance.

Woof,

I think you can but for the style,
come up on the stick and 'french'
the grip more.

It can happen.

The performance seemed o be a little off the cuff and light hearted.... Buddy as usual made it look easy. what made it look even funnier when the bass drum started walking was all three of those toms are stuck together. How'd they manage that?! In Buddy's defense, Word is he was quite a nice guy outside of his band members.

Paul Anka talked to his band players like crap also.

Yes Woof, I agree with Pete... It can be done matched grip, but I also believe it can be done with French or German grip... And I can't say absolutely Pete, but Jojo may have raised that bar a bit. His video Secret weapons for the modern drummer is incredible.

Don.

Buddy's left hand and overall technique for that matter was just unbelievable. Here's a video clip with some good camera angles as well.

Kind regards,
Anders

And in spite of it all, the grooves just kept on coming.

I'm as much impressed with Mel Torme as I was with Buddy's creeping kit!

Awesome stuff! I love it.
