Boing

Does anybody know when the "boing" came back in snare drum sounds? I don't really remember a time when so much open snare sound was popular. Bruford's sound remained the same decade after decade, but most recorded music had snares dampened a little or a lot. Billy always had a dampened sound. But today all I hear is *BOING,* the more the better it seems.

And we were always told recording engineers hate that sound. The engineer who did the one record I played on made me put my wallet on the drum. Ticked me off and made it so tough to play.
