just picked up a like new copper sparkle set for 3 bills off craig's list. the guy also threw in a drum rug and a a nice cymbal bag. also bought a pair of paragon 14" hit hats from him for 110.00. I feel like a thief sometimes but hey he set the price, can't wait to play these at some gigs! it's like i manifested these drums! i've been wanting them, i had the desire and they just showed up. also the drum rug will be a good addition and i have been needing a new cymbal bag! I just like the 18" bass drum idea much easier to deal with makes the rack tom set lower and i can get a comfortable set up this way with gravity in my favor.

I have a great admiration for those who can phathom
the conceptual use of an 18" bass drum. As a stand
alone unit they serve no practical puprpose for anything
I do or would ever want to. I've never even liked them
in jazz. Just a sound that's never appealed to me.

But I feel the same about the 26. There's a point for
me where one's too small and one's too big. Different
strokes... silent

I always liked a 26" best for some reason. Always able to play faster on one. I believe it was just the flex of the head at point of impact compared to smaller kicks. I had a 24x26 way back when. When I began making drums my first kick was an 18x26. It sent everyone's stomachs into the pit in rehearsal.

For another odd reason I really like playing 20" drums. Must be the same reason - just the flex of the head. Real quick response. I have an 18x20 shell I need to do something with. I have never liked playing 22" heads. Any head, any tension. They just never feel right to me no matter what I do. It's always a boxing match with them. Though using the Drumnetics pedal has made a real and noticeable difference for me.

20" kicks are wonderful. Great for smaller clubs and/or
for getting that direct and definitive punch.

For me, the 22" is like the porage in the three bears.
Not too hot, not too cold, but just right. Kick drums
smaller than a 20 or larger than a 22 are specialized
items for me, though I do like an occasional 24.
