Hi all,

Well after several years I finally bought TIMF last week, and among everything on that album one thing that stood out for me was the sound of that China cymbal (or Chinese if you prefer Laughing ) . Does anyone know the make and model of it? I'm assuming it was a Zildjian, and that it may have been discontinued several years ago.

Bearing in mind that studio trickery at the time was comparatively limited, I think it sounds absolutely fantastic. Certainly in comparison to the 18" Paiste PST5 I'm playing at the moment Very Happy

Thanks & best,

Mark

I think Zildjian sold quite a few of those because of Billy.
He was certainly the reason I bought mine!

Yes, and so did Buddy Rich. But respectfully, they weren't the reason
they caught on so well. It was Billy, high up, upside down, knocking
the cymbal grooves off of it.

I had bought one too ,, around 1975 , because Boomer used one but it did not have the rivets in it. That one was stolen from me when my house was burglarized and my trap case was taken . Lost some valuable zildjians and a Ludwig snare that day . But I purchased another one after that and it had the rivets in it. Always loved the sound of it ! That one I still have .

Peace, TED

I still have mine. Zildjian 22" swish.
What a beast it is. I've actually had musicians I play with tell me to not use that cymbal because it is so trashy or annoying to them.
Mine doesn't have rivets, either.
I bought mine in the late 70's because of Billys signature sound.

Mine originally had the rivets, but they all fell out.
