Hey guys,

I was tooling around on youtube and typed in EC Scott and found this. It's us performing in San Francisco late last year. This particular tune and performance has special meaning for EC and everyone involved with what she does. The reason for this is we performed this particular tune for a lady who was there on the Make A Wish Foundation. She had terminal cancer and Her wish was to see EC, and for her to perform the tune People get ready. By the time this song was over, EC could barely hold it together, not to mention the rest of us.

The video sucks and there's only a little over a minute of the tune. but you'll get an idea of what the band sounds like.

At the end of the night EC asked this lady if she was afraid... This brave woman replied with a full smile: "EC, how can I be afraid? I'm going to be with Jesus!"

Nough said.

P.S. There are also some clips when we performed at Legends in Chicago last year in November. (this video is even worse).

the band sounds good to me Don . What you need to do is record one of your performances [ tripod shot] and put your own videos up there.

I know People get Ready is an old gospel song, but I first heard it done by the Chambers Brothers back in the 60's. Always loved that song . Peace, TED

Yes, Ted.... The tune was originally done by the Impressions in 1965. Since then, a whole slew or artists have done this tune in studio and live performance.

It's a shame those Chicago
dates were as bad as they
were because I think I was
there to see them. Isn't that
right, Don? The sound was
OK, though.

Don was crackin'!!

Pete,

You were at Buddy Guys the first time we played there. That was either mid year 2005 or 2006.

I called you for this show but you couldn't make it.

I love it D....You just anchor it down tight with that two / four. That's how I approach R&B and I see no other way but to. Being that we live in another generation who may interpret R&B somewhat different (doing injustice in my opinion), I can't seem to percieve it exicuted any other way (period). That may sound bias to some, but one needs to think in terms of R&B from a traditional way. What I'm hearing from youth today, and it's understandable of course, is that they see (comprehend) this music more in the vain of mainstream 'Pop-R&B' and have no inclinations as to what this music not only should sound like, but rather anaware of it's historical, cultural and meaningful context to the people it evolved from.

I remember when I played with a local respected R&B band back in the mid-seventies, having my mentor Bob seated in the audience listening to me. Being a young lad that I was (19), full of excitement and overly confident, I played the music in what I 'thought' I heard and nearly if not totally massacred the music........I killed it! I overplayed, thinking that I was inside the pocket. My friends that were also in the audience said it sounded great to them being that they were of the same age.

After that first song was done my mentor asked the leader if he could talk with me for a couple of minutes off stage, cause that's all it took for a needed readjustment to take immediate change. After that 3 minute talk with Bob, I was harnessed back on those drums playing that 2 / 4 that was demanded of me from my mentor, but gaining a clear understanding to the respect and context of the music it'self. The band leader later thanked my mentor and accepted his suggestion on continuing working with this young potential rac........man. And he did and I will always be greatful for that kind of love.

Case and point; Sometimes it takes a loving mentor who needs to tighten a loosed harness (horses' bit) on a wild pony!!! (;
