I saw this before in another
thread and of course, he is
right. Let me tell you that he
is one to talk being on the very
edge of it. I think that he is
the line when it comes to just
how much chops has to be in
the music. He can do it all
and he does and just enough
of it but again, back to the
"space" - I think it is the space
that defines the player and not
the fill. Just my opinion.

Hello Pete! It's been awhile and am glad to read your response(s), always did. I agree with you and the space concept which is less popular in today's generation of drummers. Maybe not all but a great deal of them. I think Chamber's words had to be said sooner or later and perceived it coming from a reputable musician as Chambers. For some time now I've been thinking, as well as many past topics here, about where drumming is heading - more about being self-focused rather than listening which makes for better playing musically and in a sense preserves the characteristics of a band as a whole.

Thanks,
Rac

Thanks Pete for that video of Harrison. Wonderful to hear a young player actually listening and playing the music. Great feel and groove in my estimate. And there was no frenzy drum rolls during the breaks....Wonderful!!!

Yes...let the music breath...Ahhhhhh Ahhhhhh Smile Cool  Cool  sunny  sunny

There is just enough in there
that WE know what he is and
this is the way it should be done,
in my opinion.

I agree. This is my first hearing this young man. I will research to hear what else he's doing. This is what I've always grown to love about this site how learning and exploring different perspectives on playing the kit - the very reason I've always come here. I tend to find a part of me here, that I know God has wired me with.
Love you guys man!

I saw a Chris Coleman interview recently where he makes the same observations about today's drumming. It's almost like the 'chops' generation are all adhd. They can't just sit and watch and listen to what is happening around them and weave and flow in and out of it.

I notice Rac refers to Gavin as a "younger player".
Just in case you didn't realize, he's 51 years old.
