Stuff with Eric Gale & Steve Gadd Live 1976 DTS DVD 274

http://www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/2638274

Live In Montreux 1976 July 2nd

Steve Gadd - Drums
Gordon Edwards - Bass
Eric Gale - Guitar
Cornell Dupree - Guitar
Richard Tee - Piano

In DTS 5.1 this is bliss.

Steve gets Solos on track 3.
and at the end of track 'Boogie On Reggae Women'
he does does his Rudiments display
great Funk solo.

It is cool to have the Great and Late Eric Gale
on a good sound DVD.

Steve is playing good.

1976 a great year for Jazz and Rock.

It is also on a CD as well, soon.

Seeing this reminds me of some great musical times I had back then. I was so musically absorbant and considerably less callous to what was happening around me in the music community. I guess the same can be said for my life in general.

I'm realizing that the older I get, the more I find I must guard myself against becoming a grumpy old man. Some would argue that point saying it's too late.... But I think there's still a ray of hope sunny afro

Steve Gadd on here
really funking the kit up with his Cow bell
right next to his snare - low down.

This band is pure Inspiration
for young players today.

That year they were all busy in sessions
and some doing Solo work
so it was great that they did this gig.

Cornell does a Solo
then Eric does a solo.
The Late and Great Richard Tee and his
Acoustic Piano playing is rare to see.

This is only out via VideoArts/EagleVision/MontreuxJazz Japan,
so far.
But that great HMV Japan site does English
and fast Worldwide to your door.

I was likely, there. This was
the time for Steve. So many
memories and boy, do I miss
Richard Tee. A truly singular
keyboardist. RIP, Richard.

Don
so busy, I missed that magic touch.

10 Outta 10
because it is so rare
and that Engineer in Montreux
and Eagle made such a great effort to put this
DVD into 5.1 DTS.

The Final track on this DVD is listed as 'Do It Again'
but it is the 1975 hit Instrumental 'Satin Soul' composed by BarryWhite and Gene Page.

I guess that may be why the CD version is being held up
or they are putting more tracks on it.

Those were the days for sure. Great memories and even better music!

Let's see, when Stuff first recorded this I was living in London. Though I wasn't there in Montreaux, I did have a bunch of opportunities to work with some of the individual musicians that made up "Stuff." Among them were certainly a point of conversation when reuniting with Chris Parker (2nd drummer for "Stuff") and Gordon Edwards back in 2003 at Nick & Val's "Sugar Bar" restaurant. They told me Cornell Dupree was supposed to have been there that night, but no one could get in contact with him (Cornell is absolutely a "super" Guy). Also missing that night was Steve Gadd, but he had scheduling conflicts, if I remember correctly. And yes Pete... Richard Tee is certainly missed! His keyboard playing was pure silk: he could take it from the church to the street at a momen'ts notice!

Here's a pic among the many that were taken that night with me in the house. The guitarist Hugh McCraken was also there, but I can't find the pic just now... heck, a lot of folk were there - and strangely enough having to deal with the very issue of how musicians should be getting paid for their contributions to creative works:

Anyhow I'm glad to hear that this release has now been remastered and rereleased!

Thanks Colin for the info! You are a true audiophile!

Colin,

No doubt that is true, but Ralph MacDonald's studio on Broadway and West 48th Street was known as "Rosebud Recording." Was there a name change?

Didn't know that Bill Eaton played bass... my contact with him was always as a writer, arranger and contractor for sessions. I've never seen him play an instrument. That is news to me. Embarassed I do know that he co-wrote "Where Is The Love" (along with Ralph MacDonald and one other person?) as performed by Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway.

Bill Eaton is a very soft spoken guy. That night he mingled but was laid back. Super guy! 10 out of 10! Smile

Anyhow, that gang was among those who gave me my start in NYC...

And STUFF!?? Well they were the stuff! Very Happy

Yes John
you are right Rosebud Recording Studio,
Antisia was his own Publishers for Ralph.

And William Salter is the Bass player.
That's me getting the two William names mixed up.

His LP 'Struggle Buggy' (William Eaton) is great
1977 TK productions/Marlin label.

Wow Colin!!!

William Salter AND William Eaton! I hadn't heard Salter's name in a number of years. I need to refresh my memory on his discography.

No problem man... it's an easy thing to get things mixed up today! Simply too much to remember in context I think.

I won't hold it against 'cha! LOL!

P.S. I do remember having a few bad experiences with TK Productions though (and not from the musicians). Mad
