spanky,

You'll be in my thoughts. Hopefully you'll be back in action in no time.

I understand the laser removal is relatively new, but supposed to have a quick recovery time?

Rare, much said here can be taken into consideration but do see a specialist in the matter.

This I do know; When the ringing occures where it's at a point of being annoying, do not, I repeat DO NOT PANIC. Panic creates a fear that restricts your mental senses to deal with the ringing. One thing I've done is use a quality isolation headphone while performing. This has helped me tremendously over the past few months. I've posted on this in a earlier thread, not sure if you've read it. But for me personally it decreased my ringing, I would say, by 80%. Now mind me, there may have been other variables (avoiding loud noises, using plugs when need to etc.) that contributed to this substantial decrease to my ringing problem and may differ for you. Keep in mind this will take TIME.

Nothing profound and you may not like it:
The bottom line on this infection is really to stop being around loud noise, like performing next to amps and the sort. I realize this is something that sounds ridiculous asking a musician, but really....it's a major effort in healing of this kind. I read an article sometime ago that that is really the most effective procedure to take. It will cost you in the area of sacrifice; are you willing enough to not being near loud music or may be even stop playing for a while?.... Yes, I did say that.

The idea is to basically teach yourself to be noise environmentally conscience. In other words, avoid high levels of negative noise. It's like any other illness that requires rehabilitational environments that contributes to the healing process. At this point I hear people laughing but no matter. Then when you notice the decrease in the ringing (minimum of 50%), you now need to approach music by safeguarding your ears with proper isolation and continue being noise-level conscience. Your choice.

In the mean while my friend, i will be praying for you.

Thanks guy's, it is 3:48 Am here in Philly, I have to be at the VA at 6:00 AM to get blood drawn, and then it is up to the operating room. When I had this done before the pain was hell the first night, and they gave me oxycodone, which I don't like. And also they will not be doing the laser surgery, because the government is not doing the laser, nasal polyp removal surgery yet. I have my bands rehearsal tomorrow we have them in my basement, so I plan on doing that Tuesday, no matter what, I have 5 horn players now, so today they are rehearsing by themselves and tomorrow I want to see and hear the results, all of them are great horn players. So pain or no pain I am doing that. And in a little bit I will post some music from us. Well see you guy's later.

I dont mean to sound the trumpets of victory here, but just want to say i prayed for you and rare.

And for what's it worth, please remember that horns can be harmful to the well being of the human ears. Request that these people (especially the high frequency trumpeters) keep suitable distance from you or use quality ear plugs while rehearsing. No intentions of demeaning anyone here, but suggestion comes from having bad encounters with them...I'm seriously conscience about this if you've taken notice yet.

Is your attic cement walls, drywall or sound proofed? That makes the difference in terms of negative noise-retraction and obsorbtion. Walls that are obsorbent (sound proofed) for example are prefered environments when all possible. It has been known to absorb or filter down a fair amount of negative ambient noise....which is the stuff you seriously want to avoid at all possible cost. I've become a preacher against anything that is a notable threat to the human soul and.... ear. Can I get an amen?

Unfortunately, I did panic for the first couple months. I never experienced ringing anywhere near this loud. It's like it came out of nowhere. I'd like to attribute it to an ear infection or some medication I was taking (zicam & benadryl), but perhaps 25 years of subjecting my ears to loudness caught up to me all at once? In retrospect I can attribute some panic to the stress I was already under. On a positive note- I believe I'm getting better. Though a queit room still drives me nuts, and it's still not possible for me to sleep without the ipod playing some relaxing waves or a rainstorm which I need to block out the ringing. It seems my mind focuses on the ringing in a dark way. This is not who I am! I'm going to heed the advice from you (and others) and hang up the sticks for awhile, give my ears some time to rest, and see where that leads.

What's amazing to me is I've talked to people who have ringing louder than I do who have no problems at all. It takes no mental effort for them to ignore. They just do automatically. It's as if it's just another thing of no consequence.

I am doing good, much better than the first time. They gave me Propofol in the operating room, and I said to the anastegiologist in a loud voice, Michale Jackson, and he said yup, and that is the last thing that I remembered. For those of you who don't know, Propofol is what killed Michale Jackson.

Good to hear, Spanky.

Among the other natural remedies I've mentioned above, lecithin is another. Just learned about this yesterday.
