did he win ??

My impression is that he would have been better off sticking to playing the drums, which he did very well and a little less on the bullshit. I realilze it's a competition so maybe one gimmick thing would have been okay, like the roll he did with the stick in the crux of his arm - the rest of it has got to go. But that's just me.

What do you guys think ?

Peace, TED

First, It's the same old story with this. All these kids sound alike... Mr. Gospel chops.

Second, All the tricks he was doing didn't seem to go with what he was playing. It all just looked unnecessary.
Truthfully, I find this whole drum off deal to be really boring.

He placed second.

And yes D, I agree. This kind of competition sets kids up to be too self-centered and not working as a team within the context of playing musically with others.

The kid needs a mentor of the older school of groove to harness his potential of becoming musical. Then there is the ego issue that most of us in our younger years are victimed to that needs disciplined. The kid is fast and precise in exicution but, again, no sense of groove.

The differerance I see between that other show drummer (twirling of sticks funny guy) is much more delightful to see and hear minus the inflated egotism we find in this other lad. Again, it's show(off) time folks......that's all Wink

Beautiful monster taking seriously his role of drummer as clown. And clowns are important.

I felt besides all his tricks he did show a strong sense of groove for a few seconds here and there. I thought the stick twirling in combination with the cymbal playing was rhythmic and entertaining. At 3:11 to 3:22 he played in 7/8 and this showed some schooling. I don't think these things are necessarily about musical knowledge, timekeeping or groove. I liked it better than those world's fastest drumming, bpm goons. If this were a competition in rhythm knowledge that would be one thing but it is basically about being impressive and showing chops and I thought he did that very well. That is my opinion. Nothing phenomenal but somehow he showed some musical chops. I think these solos are supposed to jump around and not have any musical regularity in the way of groove and i did see him repeat himself a bit. If it helps him get some recognition I see no harm in it. I'd be interested to see the 1st place winner and compare the performance.
