Being that I work with youth, I was invited to a concert (alternative rock) that happened past Friday night. The band is called Encubus of which I thought was a pretty good concert. We got way-over our monies worth, I think. All I can pretty much say is that the boys are very good at what they do. I liked the the way they held tight musically. Bass and drums was air-tight top of the line alternative stuff......not to shabby.

I know, the name alone is strange. I may not agree with their phylosophy on life, but for what they do as a band musically in their field is tops...

My thoughts..

Oh, forgot to mention....The concert was held at one of my faves of places called the Waikiki Shell (like your Hollywood Bowl ). It was just pure flash back from concerts I attended there back in the 70s'. Great setting on the lawn area. Cool

I believe the band is "Incubus", Rac.

They are a international touring band.

As a youth pastor Glenn, you'll find that the greatest challenge in your ministry is not merely to know the spirit of serving, but how to either maintain or build bridges across generational gaps.

If this is what you mean, accepting invitations to go where they go then I would have to agree by all means.

I like to call this form of outreach, if I may, incarnational ministry where you become intergrated into thier world buy sacrificing what I like doing better. Of course by this approach I understand that we are in (social elements) but not of (drawn into the system) of this world. I've found this as being very effective in reaching these people in a relational, yet leading in a Christ-like manner.....Christ did why should'nt we?

Like to add, however, that by 'being the Church' (not necessarily stained-glass buildings) in people's lives, God has reached so much young people in His Love and Grace. And besides, they've grown into accepting and appreciating my part of the world............jazz-fusion....haha...... bounce bounce cheers

Of course uncle with all due respects sir, if this is what you are getting at................... Smile

Actually Rac, it wasn't what I was getting at all (since there is NO "PART" of the world that is unique unto itself (unless you're speaking about "tourists" only). Though there is only one path to the true God, there are many more "paven" trying to get to Him.

I sought to make it simpler without being a riddle for even the "idiot" to understand, unless kindness is a fraction among the denominators separating us All. What I was getting at was simply to say that the time of clergy and laity should NEVER have been - and is no longer if effect now except by popular media who enforces credentials at their discretion. Such is (and should be) over now (after over centuries of religious abuse by those in control instead of with empathetic illusions). Just look at history, yet at once understanding a person's spirituality as they come to reveal themselves personally (and mind you... your role as a minister should support rather than intervene).

Just simply relate to the teens (or whomever) as if they were sitting at your dining room table AND knowing them as a PERSON, rather than a "parisioner." Somehow, I know you know this (gnostically). Make it "epgnostically."

I love you man and know from personal experience what you are dealing with.

With all respect to you as well Glenn,

Suss!

Actually Rac, I'm more taken aback by my obvious typographical error in what I originally wrote:

... it wasn't meant to be "egnostic," but AGNOSTIC.

Let me review what I originally wrote to you... (running short of time right now);

I'll get back to ya.

RAC

... and I respect YOU Glenn!

I know exactly what you do in Life, instead of just music. No mistake on either of our parts, I think. I just sought to focus upon your statement about possibly not agreeing with Incubus' philosophy in life. I certainly didn't mean to dictate anything beyond what my life experiences have shown me personally.

You go for it and fulfill your ministry Glenn! I'm VERY glad that I'm not alone in that quest.

Isn't music the universal language... even those who can't play it have an opinion on it! cat pirat
