Yes, I agree....just some guys Smile very well and respectfully said....thanks Ted

I'll be in San Fran in a few days and I'm looking forward to seeing RTF! Personally, I wrote a post where I really enjoy RTF's transition in their exicution of their music. I actually continue to hold interest in them and ever will. There is still an intensity in their music if we can get past the pre-RTF and learn to appreciate it's presence; except this time I have the previlidge of seeing it! No matter how we try to slice it or dice it, like Cobham, these artist are deserving legends in terms of their contribution that gave us enjoyment and the inspiration that came through fusion, and for some like me, will continue...forever more.

Lenny is forever a great drummer and have, in my opinion, aged well in his exicution and expertness of his instrument - one that forever incaptures, retains my respect and continues doing so among the many.

Thanks for your visuals that speaks more than a thousand words. Aloha!
San Fran here I come...

Hey, Rac,

95% of what you wrote above I agree with whole heartedly.
The other 5% is just wishful thinking. Consider this, I've seen
Lenny live and in person with Twenty Nine and Griffith Park and
my opinion in regard to his current abilities behind the drumset
is he has NOT aged as well as you say. Can Lenny still play?
Absolutely! He's playing music today that he played some 30
plus years ago.... Can he play it like he did back then? I don't
know.... But say what you will, It ain't the same and it's not as
good.

There's no comparison between him and Billy. Billy is still
playing much of the music he did back then also. And he's right
there, even better. But you are right! These players have con-
tributed greatly to the musical arts and are deserving for the
cause. But the reality is, you're only as good as your last show.
I hope the last show was killer. What I've seen and heard thus
far has been disappointing.

Don, Period.

P.S. Chick's looking a little thin, Lenny looks good....

Okay D I understand. Now, will you be able to meet with me @ a jazz club one evening? My stay will be brief - in on the 22nd and flying back to Hawaii on Sunday. If able, email me and I'll send you my cell number.

You don't have to understand anything, Rac... Your opinion is your
own as is mine. Let me see what's going on. Maybe we can hook
up at Yoshi's.

Again, if that would be possible that would be great D to meet you and your wife maybe. But for whatever reasons can't make it, no problem maybe on the next turn in the not so distant future.

Great pics, Ted.

Wow. I have not seen Chick that
thin since he was in his 20's. I
mean he is really thin. If he is
healthy, that is all that matters.
Stan, Jean-Luc, Lenny and Frank
look pretty good, too.

Of course, we are talking about
a wicked caliber of player in these.
Especially Chick, Stan and Lenny
have had monstrous influence on
us, all. We can only be thankful.

As for Lenny on drums: What can
be said that has not been said
about him? One of the best kicks
I have ever witnessed and with
RTF, he helped Billy make us.

What a time in music and what
players! It's a shame that Al
cannot be a part of that but I
realize that people are people
and water doesn't always run
under the bridge.

Regards,

Pete it's not that Chick is so thin - it's that I'm so fat that I make him look thin ! LOL

Actually, Chick said he lost 90 lbs. And his wife Gayle lost some weight too, since last time I saw them which was the 5 Peace Band show. Chick seemed very proud of it, and was raving about the nutritionist who helped him accomplish that. I wanted to ask him if the reason he did it was a doctor ordered thing, or just something he decided on his own to do , but it wasn't an appropriate moment so I didn't ask.

I was treated very cordially by the band members, the management, and crew and I thank them for their courtesy !

I was asked privately why I didn't review the show, as I usually have. I think the photos speak for themselves and I wish to avoid engaging in any opiniated arguing that has been going on around here. I support these musicians and this type of music, as I always have. that about covers it.

Peace, TED

Hi Ted, by the way what's that book in you hand? Was it something Chick wrote and you wanted it autographed? I too am supportive of this great band (Hawaii to San Fran) and am anticipating being in San Fran coming soon to seeing them - No Photoshop manipulation here this time Ted. If my wife (wonderfull lady/book keeper) allows me to splurge a bit more money ($150.) I may be back stage. ..not sure though. But just being there hearing, seeing live my favorite band and drummer (next to Boomer) is just incredibly wonderfull!! I'm sure I'll further being inspired by Lenny's playing as I've always been. I've been doing a few jazz gigs here lately and had oppertunities of playing some classic swing and bop stuff and Lenny's approach seems to be my gest. Just trying to incorporate some of it and having fun at it.

Forever,
rac

Thanks Ted for those great photos.

Thanks, Ted. Understood.

Did he mention who his nutritionist
was or talk more about that?

RTF was/is a phenomenon. Like
MO, it is a part of us and there is
nothing that will ever come close
to this. Like family, we can never
turn away from them.

Regards,

Well to answer the questions: Pete , yes to me it was well worth the money. I had a front row center seat for Dweezil and Zappa plays Zappa who were amazing. What an excellent band of young musicians he had. And I was onstage for the RTF show sitting a few feet away from Chick Corea, like he was in my living room. And backstage after the show with all of them. And Chick did tell me the name of the nutritionist but I'm sorry I forgot the name. My bad.

Rac, the book in my hand is the Walter Kolosky book Follow Your Heart which Chick wrote the forward for. Since I was one of the senior editors on the book, I wanted him to autograph my personal copy. His inscription reads: For Ted, Keep the music fires burning bright, Chick Corea . Words cannot express a gift like that. My advice is find the money to go VIP. This is a once in a lifetime chance to meet Lenny, whom you've said is one of your idols. Do it !!!!

Spanky, the reason I'm holding the Romantic Warior album was because we were discussing some of the music from it - and yes, I had chick , Stanley and Lenny sign my copy. I also had Stanley sign his first solo album, Lenny sign Venusian summer, Jean Luc sign Aurora, and both Jean Luc and Gayle Moran sign Visions of the Emerald Beyond . And I was embarrassed to have forgotten the Frank Gambale CD at home, so I had nothing for him to sign but we both had a good laugh about it and talked a good bit about the history of fusion music. He loved seeing the old albums I had brought along.

And Yes Woody, chick is still a Scientologist as is his manager Bill Rooney and his production team. BUT at no time was that ever brought up. nor was there anything evident about that anywhere backstage. No shrine to L. Ron Hubbard was there ! LOL

Here are some photos taken by my friend who was seated a few rows behind me:

Great pics, Ted, wow, as usual. Looking forward to seeing this double-bill myself in a few weeks, outdoors under full moon!

Hard to believe Chick is now 70 and I also noticed the weight loss and glad for it . . . his metabolism is jumpstarted and that's what it takes. Enzymes activated, stomach acid high; lots of ways to make it happen or at least try . . . I haven't been to a concert in too long and couldn't pass this one up as I'm still kicking myself for missing Ponty a decade ago. ZPZ alone gets my attention, but it seems they're icing on the cake here.

ZPZ played great Woofus, and since you're already a fan of Frank's music, you will really like them. All good players with music school backgrounds .

the drummer is the Vaultmeister for the Zappa family archives - his name is Joe Travers and he was smoking !

They were a lot more than icing on the cake - more like the coffee that's served alongside. Some photos of them:
