Hi Everybody:
I posted this as a direct message to igor but I meant to share it with everybody here so, please see below.
First time I heard him was on a Milestone label recording, maybe more than 20 years ago, I think. He got my attention because he played very musically and very logically in his approach.................. Next time I encountered him was on a gig in NYC at the Blue Note where I shared the stage with Tony Williams Lifetime: He was the pianist. It was very rare that we met after that. I did perform with him at the University of Pittsburgh at the beginning of the millennium and I believe he performed with Ron Carter at the latter's birthday celebration at Carnegie Hall in 2007 but I don't recall speaking with him at that time. I have always been a fan of his work and already miss his musical personality. Nonetheless, I am sure he is in a better place than us and I can only hope that he is performing along side those who gave him a reason to to be who he was while on this earth. Mulgrew Miller's abilities as a musician were unparalleled. May he rest in peace for all time.
