Sad news to report . The great trumpet player Lew Soloff has passed. I met him back in his Blood, Sweat & Tears days when I worked for an answering service and he was a client. He happened to live down the block so he would come in to pay his bill and hang. NIce man. RIP Lew !
From his website:
Trumpet Legend Lew Soloff passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, March 8, 2015 in New York City.
The cause of death was a heart attack, according to his daughters Laura Solomon and Lena Soloff. “Dad had more friends than anyone I know. He was so loved by so many. His life overflowed with people who cared about him,” stated Ms. Solomon.
A private funeral service is planned for Monday, March 9, 2015.
Soloff, whose career spanned more than 50 years was the consummate New York jazz musician.
