And here is our version of David Bowie's "Fame".

Nice stick twirling, Don, and cross stick patterns.

I saw Earth, Wind & Fire last summer w/ Michael McDonald warming them up.
Man, they put on one great concert with Philip Bailey singing lead.

Your band puts a nice groove on.
Rock steady.

Looks like the audience was getting into it, also.

True, Don, true....... but it still was funky good.
Verdine White was funkin' out on the bass, though.

I saw them minus Maurice, Woody. And though they were not the same, EWF was still tuff-enuff!

Oh, and thank you for your kind comments, Woodman.

smokin D, just smokin ! Just didn't picture you guys doing Bowie from the other recordings I've heard of the Joint chiefs, but you guys nailed it.

Damn good band Don, and especially with just 4 pieces.

Peace, TED

Thanks, Ted.

You know, the act and reasoning behind any artistic endeavor is actually quite selfish. Yet, it is so gratifying and rewarding when others appreciate the result of that which is created from such a self centered position.

Thanks again, my friend.

I second that emotion, Ted. I remember posting video of Bowie playing Fame with his longtime rhythm section and Don saying something to the effect of "are you kidding" and no I wasn't. Apparently I misinterpreted because the Chiefs nail it from the inside . . .

Woof,

It wasn't David Bowie... I think David's off the hook... It was that Buddy Guy clip I couldn't get my head wrapped around. scratch

Don knows how I feel about
these, already but I wanted
to write my two pennies.

What do I keep telling you
about this guy's backbeat?
I will never forget walking
into that club in downtown
Chicago, to be struck down
by that snare!! Man!!

Don has really covered a lot
of ground through the years,
a sushi-chef to serving chili;
he can do it, all.

Thank you, Don, for posting.

I've said this before and will say it again. Don has got the goods! After viewing and listening to both clips I'm convinced that all it takes is dedication to a groove for the funk to come out! Great job Nephew!

I also notice that you used here that surrogate HiHat. Never done that myself within the equipment rack though desiring to do so.

It's been just over ten years since seeing Carlos Alamar at Nick & Val's gathering they typically have every year. Carlos wrote Fame for Bowie and was working with him at the time off and on. Great guy... soft spoken and approachable from how I remember back when gigs were tossed and turned in New York City in the 70s.

Again... both Shining Star and Fame exemplify both Don Thomas and The Joint Chiefs. I love it.
