Friday i sat in my teacher friend's music classes all day as a guest artist and taught ten drumming classes to grades k thru 5. It was really fun, they have about 20 remo drums for the classes so i put them to use. It was great the kids had so much fun. i love teaching. I'm going to continue coming to her classrooms and get the kids up on some rhythms. the little kids were well behaved and listened well. The older they got the more layers of attitude. it was interesting some cocky little punk kids come out of some disfunctional families. i taught them the djembe music was from a culture based on respect and dignity and made them sit up and it was good. i taught some stuff and then i did this dynamics thing were we played a rumble real quiet then i brought it up and down up and down and they followed really well. Some kids that misbehaved thduring the week got to redeem themselves as we gave everyone good marks and helped even the scorecards for them.
Sharon said it was one of those days that it's all about that really made a difference. i am such a show off i got a kick out of shredding some solos over the groove and watching their faces so it worked out for everyone.
