This past Wednesday I played a gig in Scotts Valley, a town in the Santa Cruz mountains about 30 miles south of where I live. In getting directly to the point, I was loading out after the show and drove off and left my cymbal bag on the curb. It had about $1000.00 (retail value) worth of cymbals in it. I didn't realize I'd done this until Friday when I had to play another show. You talk about bummed... these were a very nice and expensive set of cymbals.... Ride, crashes, hi hats, splashes, china's, the whole deal. I called the restaurant where we played that Wednesday and asked them to go out and see if they were still there just by chance..... They were not and I had resolved myself to excepting the fact that I had foolishly lost an expensive investment of some valuable music tools.
Anyway Friday and Saturday I played the other gigs I had with a spare set I have and while I was playing the gig on Saturday I received a call from a guy that told me that his wife who worked in the building next door had found a set of cymbals on the curb that he thought might belong to me... He said she found them Thursday night after she'd gotten off work which means they sat in the street an entire day and a half! She took them home and had her husband call the restaurant where we played and asked if anyone had inquired about them. They told him I did and gave him my #. He returned the cymbals to the restaurant and I picked them up after my gig yesterday which was in Capitola, about 10 minutes from Scotts Valley. AND GET THIS,,,,, The guy who returned them is a drummer! He could have had himself a really nice set of cymbals. It's so nice to know that there are still some honest people around.... Thank you Bill, and your wonderful wife.
