I wish reviews like this had a set of benchmarks they go by. Snare drum selection is so subjective. How can their be "best" of literally hundreds and now thousands (custom makers) of snare drums out there? I don't know that even the Snare Drum Olympics captures the issue well enough.

The Black Beauty is not on this list, but it always seems to end up on the final list of SDO.

I tell people to make their own. They end up amazed at how good a DIY snare can sound. Component parts are everywhere now.
