Well, Billy and Company finished up a three week tour here in the states at Seattle's Jazz Alley last night. Last I heard, he and Faina will be heading home to Switzerland for a well deserved rest before blazing the musical trail again in a couple of months.
Just for the record... I had a great time working for Billy. The music he and his band members brought to the bay area was rockin... I'd do this again in a heartbeat. I gotta admit though that the best part of all this was Audrey and I just being able to hang out with Billy and Faina.... Meeting and sitting down and talking with all those other legendary players, Dean Brown, Mark Soskin, Victor Baily, Kenny Baron, John B. Williams (two extremely nice men) and Randy Brecker. Seeing Rich, Ursula and Isaiah ( Billy's Family) again was a treat. Meeting and hanging out with all these nice folks. THAT'S where it was really at for me. Audrey and I were talking about how much we missed Billy and Faina after they left San Jose.
And I must add that what I learned from not just the music side, but also the business side from this experience will be forever invaluable to me.
A BIG thank you to Billy and Faina for allowing Audrey and myself the opportunity to see a piece of the music business from this vantage point, and sharing a bit of your personal selves in the process ...... Any time, my friend!
And another BIG thank you to Art Padilla (You guys might remember him from the OLD site) for playing a crucial role in getting equipment and people from point B to point C.
Again, What a blast! My wife and I were king and queen not for a day, but for a full two weeks.
And thank you Yoshi's, Which Billy calls: "The premier Jazz clubs of the world right now."
Until next year!
Don.
