The album is available at Jeff's
site and it kills.

When I watched that I felt like Vinnie was straining to keep up with the tune at that tempo. Crying or Very sad
I like Boomers' take on it better. Smile

It sounds like Vinnie is trying to do too much, in the tune.

Jeff puts his print on Bill Cobhams track
as you would expect hime to.

Vinnie is playing harder
as that is what Jeff wanted for that track.
He is
Older now so it looks hard on him
but he is doing a pro job.

Nobody makes this tune happen like Billy does.... I suggest everyone pick up a copy of Billy's dvd LIVE AT 60. It's a live performance at New Morning in Paris with his band Culture Mix and they open with this tune and totally kill it.

BY THE WAY.....

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, BILLY! bounce cheers sunny jocolor clown geek king drunken Very Happy Laughing Razz lol!

True Don.

But I view that track as a Jeff Beck Update
because his special guitar playing
is the key.

Hey, Colin,

They did a good job with it... Vinnie is a monster player and jeff is a musical legend for sure. They don't make the tune happen like Billy does, but that's ok.

Thanks, Don and Colin.

Of course, it is Billy's tune
and it will always be.

There are good and bad
tributes. This is a good one.

I feel the same about the
Mahavishnu tributes on
Visions of the Inner Mount-
ing Apocalypse, though I
have a special affinity for
this one, in that it has my
favorite rock guitarist on
it - Jeff Beck.

He has a signature sound,
all his own, which I just
love. Blow by Blow and
Wired will forever be
iconic faves of mine and
huge influences on me
and I feel, a generation
of drummers.

Great work, honoring the
the great source!!

Please note that the Beck
release is NOT a tribute
but only that song. The
other tracks are, again,
signature Beck. Just fab!

Yes Don

It is Very Important
to have the Jeff and Vinnie Sound
on that Steady Bill Cobham track.

I was amazed / thrilled when ,
I watched Jeff and Jan Hammer
on that Tour update a Mahvishnu track as well.

Well, Pete,

Beck sort of reminds me of Miles later in his career, where many of the notes he played didn't seem to work theretically, but somehow he made them work and even made them sound good. (Though I must admit that I am not a big fan of Jeff's playing. I love a lot of his music though, Wired is it for me!)...

This was something that definately set Miles apart and it seems to be working for Jeff also.

Good rendition, but Nothing can touch the original- Just a few too many notes for me on the drums, But I know that Vinnie could lay it down ultra fat if he chose to do so.

I guess he was feeling like playing and shredding on that particular day. ---D.L.

I'm right with you, D.L.
