Hi,

Has anybody seen Dweezil Zappa’s project “Zappa plays Zappa” live? If so, could you share your experiences? I ordered the 2dvd from U.K (through www.amazon.co.uk) and got it in my mailbox after three days. The fastest oversea delivery for me so far! Anyway a great buy with over three and a half hour of music (30 tracks) played with skill, precision and good taste in my opinion. Besides Terry Bozzio, Steve Vai and Napoleon Murphy Brock Dweezil also managed to hire some younger musicians, who seem to be very talented as well. Besides the music the camera work is also excellent considering the complexity of Frank Zappa’s music. The cameras seem to be on the “right person(s)” nearly all the time. Sometimes split image is used at times because several musicians are doing “interesting things” at the same time.

Here’s two videoclips (Black Page #2 and Echidna’s Arf) from the dvd.

Kind regards,
Anders

I'm looking forward to seeing the project live next month . . . the DVD looks absolutely incredible. One reviewer on Amazon said he thought it worthy of a Grammy. What an excellent tribute to FZ. Thanks for posting as this DVD set is quite new . . .

That’s great Woofus, let us know how the concert was. I’m sure it will be a memorable one. I would have had a chance to see Frank Zappa with his big band in 1988, but I didn’t take it. This is something I regret for the rest of my life. After 1988 Frank stopped touring due to his illness.

I’ve watched the 2dvd Zappa plays Zappa two times now and it’s incredible both musically and from a technical point of view (excellent camera work and editing). The only tiny drawback is that they didn’t include the track Chunga’s Revenge on the dvd. On this number Dweezil was playing duet solos with Frank, who’s part came from a big screen. There’s an interview with Dweezil Zappa on the bonus material. Here he mentions that he took two years off to study his father’s music and compositions. He's done a great job in learning all this stuff together with some fine musicians.

The dvd, which is definitely worth buying, contains the following tracks on two discs (about 3 hours and 35 minutes of music from two concerts):

1. Andy
2. Call Any Vegetable
3. Tell Me You Love Me
4. Florentine Pogen
5. Cosmic Debris
6. I’m The Slime
7. Pound For A Brown
8. Don’t Eat That Yellow Snow
9. St.Alfonzo’s Pancake Breakfast
10. Father O’Blivion
11. Inca Roads
12. Eat That Question
13. I’m So Cute
14. Tryin’ To Grow A Chin
15. Punky’s Whips
16. Black Page #1
17. Black Page #2
18. Regyptian Strut
19. Peaches En Regalia
20. Montana
21. Village Of The Sun
22. Echidna’s Arf (Of You)
23. Zomby Woof
24. Black Napkins
25. The Torture Never Stops
26. Oh No
27. Son Of Orange County
28. Trouble Every Day
29. Sofa
30. Cheepnis (bonus track)

Kind regards,
Anders
