last night i had the huge pleasure of playing for the Irving street repetory company http://www.irvingstreetrep.com/. It was a Broadway run musical comedy show that featured about 21 hits by Louis Jordan. These guys were unbelievably talented dancers and singers. It was funny too and i had the time of my life. The director is a grammy award winner and has worked with people like Dionne Warwick and people of that stature. He had another broadway hit with "Your arms too short to box with God". They were all amazing people and artists. It was a challenge but the musical director cued me and we nailed it pretty much with a few rough edges that kept it very real. there were some intense drumbreaks and the drummer on the cd they sent me was a monster and that influenced my playing. Fortunately i was familiar with the big hits like saturday night fish fry, choo choo chaboogie, caldonia, ain't nobody here but us chickens. But man these cats could sing. They took turns and some of the ballads were incredible like Don't let the sun catch you cryin and some others. Anyway what a learning experience. They liked me and said they would see me again. What an honor that was so much fun!!
