Issue 15: Gary Husband
Drumhead Issue 15

GaryHusbandcoverWe at Drumhead are proud to bring you issue 15, May/June 2009. From cover artist Gary Husband, a true master of both drums and keyboards, German drummer Curt Cress: you may not know the name, but you've heard his chops, to an in-depth interview with Joan Armatrading about working with the world's choicest drummers, the issue is as educational as it is entertaining.

Issue 15 also features Papa Roach's Tony Palermo, Andrew Ranken from The Pogues as well as all the regular education and instruction you're used to. This issue's CD gives you a chance to listen to tracks from Gary Husband, Gavin Harrison, Keith Carlock's band Rudder, and Ray LeVier.

Talking about the powerful and terrific drumming of Gary Husband I managed to get a copy of a tape with Allan Holdsworth and his IOU band. No commercial videofootage with Gary Husband on drums with Allan Holdsworth exists to my knowledge, so this concert from Frankfurt, Germany in 1986 is a real treat. On this show Holdsworth plays electric guitar on six tracks and synthaxe on three tracks. There’s material from this television broadcast on youtube. Here are two clips from this concert. The first track (an excerpt) is “Letters of marque” and has a drum solo by Gary. It’s not the whole solo, but most of it. The second track is “Three sheets to the wind”.

Personally I’m a great fan of Allan Holdsworth and his music. I have about 10 of his releases on cd.

Kind regards,
Anders
