Similar to the jazz-rock collision in the Chuck Berry video above is this Elvis video backed by the Dorsey brothers band in 1956. This rendition of Heartbreak Hotel coincided with the release of the song to the public and was the song that broke Elvis. Elvis comes in late after the solo and it's a train wreck. But even Elvis can't make that band look cool with the advent of rock.

In the Chuck Berry video, he may be shaking his head in dismay at the clarinet solo. That's not rock!!! The musicians look at one another as if they're on some kind of new roller coaster, but their playing is fear-based. They're on the outside now and can't acknowledge their enjoyment, instead almost condescending to the new sound. It's OK, you obsolete jazz musicians, you'll be fine in the long run. Just relax and dig in.
