Gary Husband is Dirty and Beautiful

Has anyone heard this CD yet?
It is almost a Mahavishnu reunion, everyone except Rick Laird is on here.
I think it is out November 1st @ Abstract Logix.com

only 3 M.O. members play on this CD. Billy Cobham is not one of them.

Just to say the official press release and audio snippets montage are all featured at http://www.abstractlogix.com/xcart/product.php?productid=24816 for the record. I would be delighted if some of you find the album interesting and sincerely happy if you hear the record and like it also.

On the MO subject, I have to say I am not one of those enthusiastic for a Mahavishnu Orchestra reunion, and it certainly wasn't ever in my mind to try and bring about some kind of get-together of those guys for this album. This is an album just about the music and about the various personnel being right for the respective tracks.. but it is a noteworthy element I guess that John, Jerry and Jan are all on the record (although not at all playing WITH each other on any of the pieces.)

The one thing I was trying to bring about originally was to bring John and Allan Holdsworth together in an interesting way - certainly not for a "shred" fest, but I definitely had some ideas of a nice way of featuring them side by side. Due in large part to Allan's particular dysfunctionalalities and strange paranoia about playing live and being recorded these days, sadly this didn't happen.

That was a shame I couldn't make that happen, but there're great performance by them both on the record as well as everyone else too! The great Jan Hammer put in a momentous solo, and since he was one of my perennial all-time great influences from many years ago I'm nothing short of delighted he agreed to play on the record. That's a real highlight. Then again, there are many highlights. The whole thing's been a great and most satisfying endeavour.

Hope those of you who get to hear it will feel the same.

Then there'll be Volume 2 around the Spring of next year! So the work is not yet over!

Thanks Gary for the clarification . I've heard the snippets and advance tracks you put out and I can't wait to hear the full album. I pre-ordered it from Abstract and will be getting it soon.

Will you possibly be working in any of the tunes in the 4th Dimension set ?

Cant wait to get a copy. That is noble to try to get john and allan together.
That would be an amazing experiment at least. I encourage it 100%!!
I totally understand it must be trying to make happen but don't give up.
It must be rough to coordinate. If it doesn't happen it doesn't. Maybe john could help encourage him (offer him a deal he can't refuse). Jan Hammer is also always a welcome presence!! i know you're not a bank but sometimes that's all it takes.

I was a fan of Gary Husband's even before John so wisely added him to his arsenal. So it was a thrill when Gary joined John to make music. I can't recommend Gary's new album Dirty & Beautiful enough. Not only is Gary joined by a killing John McLaughlin, but on what other album are you going to hear Jerry Goodman and Jan Hammer as well!!!!????? (Except the Mahavishnus of course) And the other players, Holdsworth, Trower etc. Why would all of these monsters agree to play on Gary's album? Simple, they know he is one of them!

I guess. i just ordered it and it came already!

Abstract has been sending out copies already. I got mine a week ago and as Kenny says the best cut on the CD is called Dreams in blue. It sounds like it could have easliy been a 4th Dimension cut .

That's not to say the rest of the album isn't great because it is ! Jan Hammer is on one cut called Leave em ON which was written by Allan Holdsworth. and Jerry Goodman is on another cut called Between the Sheets of Music which was written by Jan Hammer and Tony Smith .

Gary has attempted to show some of the many styles of music he is capable of playing on both drums and keyboards on this album and he succeeds on all counts. To be able to attain his level of proficiency on one instrument is hard enough but to be able to do it on two as Gary does is absolutely wonderful !

Seriously, just go buy the CD !

As I'm sure Colin will say when he gets his copy : 10 oughta 10 this is Bliss !
