Hello---

I recently discovered what looks like a great CD by the Jan Hammer Group and wondered if anyone can comment on how good or bad it is:

http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/janhammer5

According to that webpage the music was recorded in 1975 and released 2008 --- 33 years later. ..... Not sure I understand why such a long delay.

No guitar. Refreshing. Brings back a lot of memories of the day, too. I remember all those pieces.

So, no hard copy, just MP3? Bummer.

If you like fusion, sure.

I will, if I find a hard copy of it.

I've never downloaded an MP3 and have no desire to start now.

I did see some older music of Jan Hammer on CD on ebay a few weeks ago. Not this particular concert though.

And Jan worked with Sony

I have this CD. Good stuff. The guys were burnin! I'd like to say that Tony Smith
was underrated. But the real truth may be that he just didn't do enough documented
material to get the recognition... This CD along with "Oh Yeah" both have some brilliant
drum work on them. Jan Hammer and Steve Kindler are outrageous on this also!
Fernando Saunders is rock solid on the bass lines. He and Tony are a wickely strong
driving force! A VERY tight incidently, considering the era.

Had this unit remained together for a reasonable amount of time, they surely could've
been among the major names now widely remembered during the heyday of fusion...
Really cool, smokin, no nonsense, progressive, jazz rock fusion!

Yes Don
Tony Smith a Top Drummer
really helped these recordings.

I think on the Santana recording
he is not credited as the 2nd Drummer on "Flame Sky"
John Mclaughlin and Carlos '72.

I saw Tony Smith and Jan together a
number of times A fine drummer and
I agree - under-rated.

Again, I don't think he's underrated as much as
he just didn't do enough to reach a higher status.

Yes thanks for posting the Full Gig , Kenny
I guess no label can put it on a DVD
due to the contracts at that time.

Cool stuff... Tony had a style all his own.
Those signature Remo black dots of his,
it didn't quite seem right if he didn't have
those on his yellow Gretsch drums...

Miss you, Tony! R.I.P. Also miss Jan not
playing any longer... He was so good and
contributed so much. I hope all is well for
him.
