And check out the syncopation between the bass and drums on this one.

Even digital vinyl sounds better than digital digital. Much more dynamic.

You know, Woof, I hear that a lot. For my personal taste though,
I'll take digital recordings over analog any day of the week. I do
admit that analog has an audibly warmer, rounder countenance
but I think the crispness and clarity that digital offers more than
makes up for that. Plus digital is pretty phat in it's own right.

Analog is cool... But digital, that's the way I roll and that's what
works for me!

I love M.J. But for me, It'll forever be J.B. as the most dynamic, musical entertainer
and stage performer of all time. No pyrotechnics, no lip syncing, no magic tricks or
big time stage productions. Everything you saw was the real deal straight from the
heart, body and soul. There's very little if any of this type of blood, sweat and 'soul'
performances happening today. How fortunate and blessed I feel to have lived during
this era of entertainment through conviction.

Check out his feet in these clips... Ridiculous!

Palmares on youtube writes:

The real reason why many Black performers had this kind of dynamic and exhilarating ferocity in their music/entertainment is because so few opportunities where available to us in those days. You put your heart, soul, dignity, and everything else into your music and entertainment abilities. This is one of the few ways that as a man or woman of color, you could make a real buck and hold your head high at the same time. No accident that as opportunities have opened for us, our music has declined.

So true!

Great sentiment, I agree wholeheartedly. Our bass player introduced me to this video last week saying this is real entertainment, asking "what happened to entertainment?" You've just provided a valid, albeit obvious answer. I'd like to think we can still make great art even when we have every material thing we need. It's more about spiritual/emotional need making "opportunity" irrelevant. It's about seeking and giving your all. I've been so fortunate to have seen JB about 4x, once twice in the same month.

Absolutely, Woof.... Today, rather than using the available opportunities to become great at one's craft,
These opportunities are being manipulated more toward fulfilling the desires of becoming rich and famous....

Shortcuts bar none.... All the better as a matter of fact.... A sad state.

I have mostly everything that James Brown has ever made except for that album James Brown plays James Brown where he James himself plays the organ through out the album. It is a mid 60's album. But I have seen James around 5 or 6 times and the Funk starts with him. He is truly the greatest.

That's right, Spanky...

For me, the important thing when playing music is getting the essence across
of whatever it is your playing. It's really not about difficult or simple but about
making the connection.

It's about being a star because you do what you do well, not because you're
carried around enclosed in a giant plastic egg or that you wear a wardrobe of
meat.

James and company made it to the status they have because they were the real
deal and the music connected with the intended point. And that to me is key.

You can play all the music, instruments and rhythms you want. But the REAL challenge
is having the know how to convey the true essence of what it is you're doing. Fail to do
that and everything else is moot.

James Brown did this, and that's a complexity in itself.... And it's why "he is truly the greatest"
in his chosen genre.
