It is quite the instrumentation with: "5 Zustände des Wassers" and "0.1.0" played by SONIC COSMETICS Bernhard Geigl (rhodes), Lana Cencic (voc), Alois Eberl (tb), Stefan Konrad (tr), Catalina Morales (fl), Eberhard Reiter (cl), Werner Zangerle (ts), Anna Lang (cello), Raimund Vogtenhuber (guit, electronics), Walter Singer (b), Nikolaus Dolp (dr)

I like it alot, Niki.
It is hard to catagorize the sound of it. Maybe avant garde would be the closest I can come to describe the sound of "5 Zustände des Wassers"
Very eccentric sound. Similar to Rhasaan Roland Kirk, for example.
I don't know what kind of drugs you guys were on when you recorded this but I want some. Just kidding.......... LOL
The actual recording was done very tastefully. Did you use a studio or home recording?
Strange instrumentation but it worked very well for this song.
Very nice!!!

Thanks Woody for listening!Cool you liked it.
We didn't take any drugs, although some of us were on a big party a mutual friend of us had in a house at the edge of the city a day prior to the recording. Maybe some drugs still were in the body! affraid
;-)

We will record a whole album with that Band next year for a small but nice and known local label here! I'm really digging the sound character of the Ensemble and it's cool that all those guys and gals are motivated to do that, as there is yet not much money involved and I doubt it will be in the future.
We recorded this and 3 other tracks on a one day studio session for an avantgarde sampler which will be released next summer. They will take one of the songs we recorded and put it on the sampler.

Thanks again for taking the time to listen to it and let me know your thoughts!

Best regards
Niki

Music inspired by whales!

I wasn't surprised to learn the meaning of "Fuenf Zustände des Wassers" using an internet translator: "Five Conditions of the Water"

Is this an accurate translation? What a beautiful inspiration for a musical conglomeration. It's pretty wonderful stuff, Niki. Part Coltrane, part early Pink Floyd, part free jazz . . .

Love your cymbal sounds . . . and some very nice flowing drum work.

"0.1.0" is another interesting title, this time incorporating digital flavoring, but still a very organic piece.

I'd say this ensemble has much musical exploration to look forward to in 2009 . . . incidentally, a killer solo on Nerdis. Wow!

Hey Niki,

Greatly enjoyed listening to your new tunes, as well as the 3 others on your myspace page. I really thought the "Five conditions of the Water" ws the better of the two, although I don't know what your concept was when creating the piece.

What I thought was very noticable during the piece was the great restraint showed by all the players. Everyone was listening to the other players and did not "step on" anyone else's motif. Having been a part of a number of free-form avant garde jams in the past, I know how it can deteriorate quickly into a sonic mess or a chop-fest and this did not happen during that piece. I also really liked how you gave the piece a direction at about the 3:20 mark instead of letting it wander all over the place thruout the whole piece.

I also really liked excerpt of Nerdis and as Woofus already commented, your solo was excellent !

It's very exciting to witness your musical growth these past few years, especially now that you're at the University level. Keep it up and one day we'll be buying your records !

Peace, TED

Thanks woof and Ted for your nice comments! Glad you enjoyed the pieces!
"5 Zustände des Wassers" - "Five conditions of the water", was partly written out with free improvisation parts for some instruments here and there...all in all there was no complete free part of the tune though, although sometimes just not precisely written out ( f.e "dull sounds" with some 16ths and half notes freely interpreted).

More to come!

Thanks Ted and Woof also for the compliments on my drumsolo on Nerdis. I played a lot and inspired when I recorded that, I have to collect my spirits again and will consume some time off over xmas as I had two serious black outs recently... Neutral No I guess I am a little stressed out!

Peace

Please tell me that you've been taking care of yourself Niki - those of us who have been here awhile remember praying for you back then. Those blackouts are something that cannot be ignored, not that I'm saying you are.

Wishing you nothing but good things, my friend ! Peace, TED

Niki,

Sorry, I have not been in touch, lately
and with everyone, really.

I have been so busy, though, I am
spending a lot more time, with the
family and have had a great Christ-
mas. I hope you had a fine Holiday.
too. I have been thinking about you.

Love,
