Doing a clean-up, I found this old file,
from 1986. Listening to it, I know it
doesn't sound like much but I have to
tell you, it is one of the best parts I
have done for someone else.

A different world and the same world
at the same time.

Randy York on rhythm guitar vocals.

I remember him being so happy and I
was proud to help.

Thinking back, I was an awful drummer,
with a few decent moments.

You guys... Thanks.

You're only legends to me.

My favorite moments are
when I get the part right
and everyone is happy and
then someone hears about
it and calls me back.

cheers

Hey Pete, were you using a Linn drum machine or some other one on your parts because it didn't sound like an acoustic set to me ?

Everything you did was competent and on tempo and sounds far different than the stuff I've heard you do nowadays. Thanks for sharing that. Peace, TED

Ted,

How are things, buddy? I have
been thinking about you.

It was a Roland DDR-30 (an
early digital kit) but with real
cymbals and side-stick.

They wanted to go digitally in.

It was a long time ago but it
is still true that the producers
and composers control what
is produced in the end. I just
complied with their request.

Best to you and yours,

Thanks Pete, things are okay now. As you know from John my daughter suffered a severe allergic reaction to some medication that she was given to treat a rash on her arm. Her whole body swelled a bit and she was covered from the neck down with a red rash and bumps and welts. I had some Benadryl at home which I got into her immediately and then after a sleepless night and a visit to the pediatrician, everything returned to normal. Except she still has the rash, which was the initial problem in the first place. Thanks to you, Don and John for the thoughts and prayers, I'm sure they helped speed the process.

I know you have young ones so a word of advice for you and any other parents reading this is to always have some Children's Benadryl on hand. It works for any allergic reaction- food, bug stings, and for allergies in general like pollen, etc.

a DDR-30 ? have to look that one up. I still have my Roland 707 machine which still works great. I'm thinking of putting it on e-bay so I can get some new mesh heads for my TD-6V kit. Peace, TED

So glad to hear that, Ted and
thanks for your advice!!

I think my NT Giants rally-cap
might have helped, too.

cheers

That Roland kit was the one
with triangular pads, going
way, way back.

Bob O'Job (bob@bobworld.com) writes:
The Roland digital drums system consists of the DDR-30 digital drums module and two kinds of dynamic pads.
Basic sounds of the DDR30 are PCM recorded bass, snare and 4 toms (each with 4 different PCM digital sounds). Up to 8 kinds of modified preset sounds per voice can be stored in internal memory and 64 more on ram cartridge. Midi in, out & thru connectors are provided as well as individual and mix outputs.

The DDR30 is incredibly versatile, the samples are a great blend of purely acoustic and electronic (there is an electronic kick that can be modified to be anything from a cheesy simmons thing to a deep 808). It?s also great for recording percussion, hook up a pad (in fact a microphone will do) and beat the hell out of it. Record the MIDI out in to your sequencer and admire your work! It beats the hell out of trying to do fills tapping those little crappy buttons on a drum machine, or a keyboard. This module has some character and enough processing options to get fresh (sorry phresh) sounds out of it.

Comments About the Sounds:
Crunchy, grainy 12 bit samples with aggresive dynamics

Pete,

You did a very good job with this... Just what was needed, man. I certainly can't where you were an awful drummer. The tune didn't require the kitchen sink. Everything was right where it was supposed to be, you played the music! What could possibly be "awful" about that?

Or was this one of your "decent moments"? cyclops

Don.

I LIKED this piece. I was thinking
back to that time and other work
that I did and how I just did not
like those. I used my hands too
much and my feet, not enough.

I feel very different, now.

Time has a way of changing our attitudes... doesn't it Pete?
