You'll probably have some questions when you see these.

Thanks for the photos Don ! Well the obvious question is why the different bass? Was that deliberate for sound reasons, or did the rental company not have the right one ?

That leads to the next question - does Billy use a rental company, or does Yamaha provide him drums whenever and wherever he needs them ?

Why was it called a Kumbaawa kit ? Peace, TED

I did see the pictures, Don.

Thanks. Very cool. I did comment

something that I missed.

Clue me in?

Thanks Don,
Nice pictures from Oakland, is that Billy's kit with the old style natural finish
bass drum? That has me scratching my head.
The toms are Yamaha MCA.
Then he appears with the blue sparkle kit again, with a smaller bass drum?

Ted,

I don't know if you know this but Yamaha has these quick change lugs... All the drums have these little studs on them and the lugs Unhook from then as you loosen the heads and hook on to them as you tighten the heads. This keeps you from having to take the lug-bolts all the way out. Yamaha sent over a kit minus those lugs for the bass drum. So Billy used the house (The Kuumbwa in Santa Cruz) bass drum. A hand crafted Craviotto 16X20 that fit Yamaha hardware.

The kit at Yoshi's was his personal kit that was sent up from Yamaha in L.A. That kit was shipped up to the Jazz Alley in Seattle for his four day performance there.

I'm not quite sure what you mean, Pete... I didn't say anything regarding this. But just in case, the first 6 pictures are new ones I just posted last night.

Don.

Great Photos
show some great warmth
at such a nice place.

Many Clubs in the UK are not doing so well
since the now American owned 02 Dome venue
is taking big orders.

Keep On Keepin' On

Oh, by the way... Right after taking those pictures of the drum setup at the Kuumbwa Jazz Center in Santa Cruz, I walked over to a cemented area and prceeded to destroy my sister-in-law's $250.00 digital camera by dropping it on that section of the uncarpeted floor. affraid

It fell directly on the lens totally shattering it. That's why there aren't more pictures.

Oooh man--

Well, at least you did get some good pics-

Yeah I think the snare drum is a Yamaha Brass Nouveau with vintage wood hoops.
And the Craviotto bass drum is one solid piece of wood. Those drums are some of the best I've seen or heard. I would love to get a set, but i need to hit Powerball first.....Then I'll send you my Elvin Snare Exclamation

I am sorry to hear about that
accident, Don. These things
can happen and it always
is terrible, when it does.

Still, I would trade a number
of those experiences for all
the magic you experienced.

Thanks, again.
