Anders wrote:In my country we have a saying ”don’t talk about politics and religion unless you want to start to fight”. This is often true because “personal truths” easily tend to become “objective truths” when dealing with these topics. When disagreeing you tend more to win over the other party and depreciate or undermine his or her point of view. When this happens usually the tone of the debate isn’t that civil anymore. Good Pete that you intervened...

Kind regards,
Anders

Aw, it didn't get bad. It always sounds worse when folks don't agree. I will always make an effort to comply to Pete's wishes. If I feel the itch to say something then I will. I've always been that way and I see no need to change now outside of applying (or at least attempting to apply) some respectful tact. This is Pete's site. should he feel the need to delete something I've written, I'm certainly not gonna lose any sleep over it.

Wow! Shocked

Yes Niki,

I knew it was only a matter of time before these smear tactics took their toll as this is the kinds of garbage it leads to.... Garbage in, garbage out.

I give Senator MCcain props for trying to nip this in the bud and giving Senator Obama the respect he deserves as a person.

This will be an interesting final Presidential debate.

I'm offering a $150 bounty on each pair of pheasant lips. Russ, we are our own worst enemies, so don't shoot yerself in the foot, droogie. Of course, we may also be our own best enemas What a Face, so enjoy yer bad self!

Woody, how do you feel about the severed wolf leg issue and aerial hunting championed by Sarah Palin? You've pulled a Palin and evaded the original question. Actually, since you only kill what you eat, I'm sure you find the severed wolf leg bounty nothing less than tragic. Ain't that right, Russ? You betcha!

Note to Pete: you may find my posts in this thread condescending to others, but when efforts to communicate go completely ignored, sometimes one must use Greenpeace tactics to bring people to the table. This is how the world works. You gotta club a seal to save a whale. More importantly, we are only on this planet a short while, so any effort toward trying to make it a better place should be applauded. It's a push-pull drag out fight between opposing forces; the stuff of creativity where the solution is found somewhere in the middle. And it seems to me this election has done much to define extremes in the population. These candidates are very different from one another. And I believe McCain and his supporters operate from a fear-based culture where insecurity leads to violence. Obama, on the other hand, inspires peace and poverty elimination. If anyone thinks we have time to spare on these issues, then consult a polar bear on a melting ice cap while they still have legs.

Probability that you will see a
president in your lifetime, other
than a republocrat, if you choose
one of the two: 0%.

I am not telling anyone who to
vote for, mind you. I just don't
what to hear complaints from
anyone that votes for them.

If you hire Tommy Lee, you get
Tommy Lee.

Thank Heaven, there was a
Tony and a Billy and a Steve
to break from the mainstream
and redefine the standard.

And I think the responsible
artists will add to that:

Thanks to all the listeners
that dared to listen to some-
thing different.

Our politics is still stuck on
the metronome.

Hey Woof,

Be careful there, baby.... by his own admission, Woodman once chomped down some domestic dog.... Prolly wouldn't be a big deal to find him in a helicopter next to Palin hunting down that pooch's more gamey cousin. jocolor geek

I'm not an advocate of killing for the sake of killing, Keith.
I'm not into flying from a plane or helicopter and shooting animals in the open without a chance for them.
That is not sportsman, to me.
Most of the time, when I hunt, I don't even get anything.

There is probably a reason there are bounties on wolves. Being predators they are always on the hunt, in packs, for animals to prey on.
Some ranchers cattle, sheep, etc... are easy picking for wolves and they don't distinguish from one animal to another, when it comes to feeding time.
It's all fair game.
I'm sure there is something else to the story that you're not hearing as to why they are hunting the wolves that way.
They just conveniently show you what they want you to see.

Such is politics........... edit things to show in your favor.

It's not about cattle and sheep, Woody. It's about wild moose and caribou. The wolves are perceived as competition to human hunters, but there's no science behind it. In fact, it may be bears who are taking prey and they are also being hunted. I don't believe there are even well-documented prey population figures.

The program is highly controversial in Alaska itself. In fact, the public voted it down more than once, but a new Predator Control Program was spawned by then Governor Murkowski in direct contradiction in 2003, which Palin expanded in 2007 amid public outcry.

The program smacks of something out of the 1800s when species were hunted to extinction. It promotes killing of wolves even outside the area of the bounty program.

It would be great to have another party. I'm afraid it will take years to work.
Imagine if it came down to three canidates on that stage Wednesday,
with each having a chance. The ads and comments would be quite different.

I think it would be great, Swirler. In the meantime, to buy a car with no motor while holding the faintest glimmer of hope that it will run even though deep down inside, you and everyone else already knows that there is no legitimate chance of that happening doesn't get anything done except time and energy.

I for one couldn't care less what party you represent. Show me someone with some sense and a shot and I will be there.

I like what Barack has to say.... But they all have a knack for making it sound good all the way up till the inaugural....

Let's see what tomorrow brings.

A wild duck can live 27 years . . . but not with Woody around! Gotta cook that stuff well to avoid things like avian flu. Get that orange sauce goin' and that's some of the best food around. Whole duck on the BBQ is a good thing I recently discovered how to do . . . normally I'd broil it in pieces. Deep fried duck is another option I've seen . . . like the deep-fried turkey T-Day craze these days. Brining a turkey is still the best. Soak it in something for three days and throw it in the oven. Not sure if the same would work for duck.

Most wild ducks are apt to have the flavor of fish and when on hands of unexperienced cooks are sometimes unpalatable on this account. Before roasting them, parboil them with a small peeled carrot put within each duck. This absorbs the unpleasant taste.

Never heard of duck tasting like fish. You also have to avoid eating the ammo.
